Carlos Alcaraz has enjoyed a brilliant 2025, capping it in style by winning the US Open for a second time.

Alcaraz praised Jannik Sinner after beating him in four sets to gain some retribution for the way the Italian stripped him of his Wimbledon title back in July.

Alcaraz was the toast of Rafael Nadal last night as he played brilliantly to end Sinner’s dominance at Flushing Meadows.

Alcaraz will play in a number of tournaments to finish 2025, and he will be hoping to maintain his position as the number one player in world tennis.

Team Alcaraz worked extremely hard to get him tuned up for the game against Sinner, and his preparation in 2025 on the whole has been noticeable.

Carlos Alcaraz decision from start of 2025 now looks like a masterstroke

Alcaraz went into 2025 having won Wimbledon and the French Open, but he lost at the second round stage of the US Open in 2024 to Botic van de Zandschulp.

When interviewed, Alcaraz claimed what he was going to work on and had this to say in a press conference: “I just worked as much as I could during the pre-season to do a good serve. Right now, I am still thinking about it. I am still reminding myself how I have to do it.

“Every day is getting better and better and feeling better with it. We knew I had to change something in the serve to be better at it.”

Tim Henman was very happy with Alcaraz’s serve in the US Open final and given just how utterly brilliant he’s been with his serve at the final Grand Slam of the year, his decision to change looks like a stroke of genius.

In winning the US Open title, Alcaraz won the trophy, facing the fewest number of break points across the seven matches of a Grand Slam tournament.

Across the two-week event, Alcaraz faced just 10 break points, with Roger Federer holding the record previously when he faced 12 at Wimbledon in 2006.

Alcaraz claimed a cool $5 million in winning the US Open, and without making the tweaks to his serve at the start of the year, this win might not have been possible.

Players have to evolve and adapt in any sport, but when it comes to tennis, Alcaraz and Sinner are absolutely the standard bearers for the tour.

With Alcaraz leaving no stone unturned and starting to turn into something resembling a robot when it comes to his serve, the future looks pretty ominous for those chasing the Spaniard.
