Carlos Alcaraz has continued his phenomenal career by lifting the US Open trophy for a second time, defeating Jannik Sinner in the final.

Alcaraz was “scared” during the US Open final, but he quickly stormed to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory in New York.

He also won the US Open in 2022, capturing his maiden Grand Slam title, with Alcaraz now sitting on six such titles.

The Spaniard needed two hours and 42 minutes to secure the success, which has also helped him return to number one in the ATP rankings.

It brings an end to Sinner’s 65-week reign at the summit, with the Italian dropping to second, where he also ranks in the Race to Turin.

Alcaraz did, however, start his latest US Open venture in the mixed doubles event, where he played alongside Emma Raducanu.

But that star-studded duo lasted just one round, losing their opening match to Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper.

And Pegula has now referenced that match in her congratulatory message to Alcaraz, writing on her Instagram story: “Congrats Carlos Alcaraz too bad I was the only person to beat you at the US Open this year.”

Alcaraz quickly forgot about that early defeat to Pegula and Draper, who won their mixed doubles tie 4-2, 4-2.

That pairing went on to lose to Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud in the semifinals, while Pegula also enjoyed a lengthy run in the singles event.

She stormed to the semifinals before falling to Aryna Sabalenka, in what was a repeat of the 2024 US Open final.

WTA number one Sabalenka went on to defend her title, but ATP star Sinner failed to do the same as he lost to Alcaraz, who has received further congratulations for his win.

He shared his success with emojis on Instagram, with Stan Wawrinka commenting: “Congrats beast” and Alex de Minaur writing: “Congratulations Charly!”

Wawrinka, who won the US Open in 2016, did not receive a wildcard for this year’s event, while De Minaur fell in the quarterfinals to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Alcaraz is clearly a very popular figure on the ATP Tour and indeed the WTA Tour, with his stock only going to rise as the years go on.
