Carlos Alcaraz stunned Jannik Sinner to pinch his US Open title away from his grasp and knock him off the world number one spot.

Alcaraz won the title for the second time with a four-set victory, taking Sinner to task with a true masterclass in the art of ball-striking.

On Friday, Alcaraz dismantled the legendary Novak Djokovic, with the Spaniard setting up yet another showdown with Sinner in another Grand Slam final.

Alcaraz took advantage of being picked to play first during his semifinal match and in beating Djokovic convincingly, he had plenty left in reserve to overcome the Italian. #

Tim Henman hails Carlos Alcaraz after US Open victory

Alcaraz is renowned for a lot of things when it comes to the art of tennis, but perhaps serving hasn’t always been right at the top of the list when it comes to his attributes.

Henman believes that Alcaraz now has to be added to the list of serving greats after his performance that left Sinner powerless to prevent his latest victory.

He said live on Sky Sports: “I have never seen Alcaraz serve like that. Think about the great servers in the game, and I now have to put Alcaraz in that category.

“Up against one of the great returners, it was just absolutely phenomenal how he was able to hit his spots with such pace and consistency and really give Sinner so few opportunities to get into those service games.

“With that service performance, it gave Alcaraz the opportunity to play with even more freedom from the back of the court. The way he was just unleashing forehand cross-court, forehands down the line, moving forward to finish the point at the net, you can see the joy of that performance and taking the US Open crown.”

It’s quite remarkable just how far ahead these two are of the current field, and these players will play each other in more finals over the years.

Alcaraz has a solid head-to-head record against Sinner, and he will definitely feel like he’s got his number at the moment, even despite losing the Wimbledon final.

At 22-years-old, Alcaraz has now won six Grand Slam titles, and that’s quite scary at such a young age, with all sorts of records in his sights for the future.

With the Spaniard now the world number one, he’s the one with a target on his back and it will be fascinating to see how he copes with being in that position again.
