Holger Rune has a long road to recovery ahead of him after suffering a serious Achilles injury.
Rune broke the proximal part of his Achilles in his semifinal match at the Stockholm Open last month, with the Dane leaving the court in tears.
The 22-year-old is set to be out for a lengthy period due to this injury, with Rune undergoing surgery on his Achilles.
Rune continues to provide injury updates on social media, but a former top 20 player has shared her concern for him.

Daria Saville shares concern for Holger Rune in injury comeback
Rune has been offered advice from Boris Becker and many other people since suffering his injury, and now former top 20 player Daria Saville has given her say.
There has been some concern shown for Rune from tennis fans due to the training videos he has already been sharing on social media, and Saville appears to agree with this sentiment.
Saville knows what it is like to suffer serious Achilles injuries, having undergone surgery on her tendon in 2020, before tearing her ACL in 2022, and she has shared her concern about the burnout Rune may suffer.
“I was a bit like wow. You can relax a little bit” Saville exclaimed on the Australian Open Tennis Podcast. “You have been injured before and he is going to get a bit of burnout if he keeps going. But I do think he is literally built different.
“I am just worried about the burnout. It will feel like I am ready. And I have talked to some of my friends who saw the video [that she made on her TikTok] and they have said that’s how I felt, I was so motivated after the surgery and I was in the gym. But after a week I was like I have got to do this for nine months.
“I do think that he has this mindset and he’s built different and he looks at it like he can get better every day and every second. But you almost have to find something outside of tennis to fulfil your days.”
Is Holger Rune going too quickly with his recovery?
Why has Daria Saville not played a match since the US Open?
It has also been a challenging season for Saville, who has only won three main WTA Tour matches in 2025.
The Australian has been very vocal about feeling burnt out this year and not enjoying being on tour, with Saville only playing two matches since the French Open.
What star players think about the tennis schedule
Saville lost in the first round of US Open qualifying in her last match, but her break from tennis has now come for a more positive reason.
After losing her third consecutive match, Saville announced that she was expecting her first child with former Grand Slam doubles finalist husband Luke Saville, who retired from tennis earlier this year.
They also confirmed that the baby was due in March 2026, with it being unclear as to what the future holds for Daria Saville’s tennis career.
