Holger Rune’s 2025 season came to a heartbreaking end after picking up a season-ending injury.
At the Stockholm Open in October, Rune suffered an Achilles injury during his semifinal match with Ugo Humbert.
The Dane, who clinched the Barcelona Open title earlier this year, underwent successful surgery soon after the setback.

He has since been issuing updates on social media about his recovery, with one of Rune’s posts causing concern among fans that he is rushing the process.
Now, five weeks after his surgery, the 22-year-old ATP star has revealed how he is feeling.
Holger Rune issues an update five weeks after he had surgery
In an uplifting post, Rune took to Instagram to say: “Second week in the boot, almost 5 weeks since surgery.
“Spirit is high, and enjoying having my team around me. Thankful for the love and support from my family, my team, friends and my fans.
Is Holger Rune going too quickly with his recovery?
“We keep working [to] come back stronger than ever,” said Rune, who finished the season ranked 15th in the world.
Many current and former players have reached out to Rune since he suffered the season-ending injury, including Boris Becker, with the six-time major champion telling him to ‘be patient in rehab’.
Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, viewed the injury from a different perspective and said being sidelined for a while may be ‘the best thing’ that could have happened to him.

Holger Rune’s results at Grand Slams this year
Rune managed to secure a title this year, and reached the final of the Indian Wells Open, but on the very biggest stages, he will be disappointed with how the season went.
At the Australian Open, Rune made it to the fourth round but ultimately lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in four sets.
He bowed out once again in round four at Roland Garros, falling to Sinner’s Italian compatriot, Lorenzo Musetti.
Then, at Wimbledon, Rune had his worst major result of the season, crashing out in his opening bout against Nicolas Jarry despite being two sets up in the match.
His last Grand Slam result was another sub-par one, exiting the US Open in the second round following a loss to Jan-Lennard Struff.
