Holger Rune has provided a first update on his situation after suffering a horrific injury in his semifinal match in Stockholm.
Rune left the court in tears after being forced to retire from his match against Ugo Humbert, despite winning the first set.
There has been a big reaction to this situation, with Casper Ruud reacting to Rune’s injury in Stockholm.
Rune’s mother had given an insight into the severity of the injury, and now he has revealed what the scans have shown him.

It had been suspected that Rune’s injury was Achilles related, and he has now confirmed that is the case in his latest social media post.
On Instagram, Rune revealed that he has broken the proximal part of his Achilles, and as a result he will undergo surgery next week.
“It’s gonna be a while before I can step on court again,” admitted Rune. “It’s tough. I had so much joy on court in Stockholm and it’s unbearable to think that I will not feel this energy for some time now.
“My Achilles is fully broken on the proximal part meaning I need operation already next week and from here rehabilitation thank you for all your support now and always. Without you nothing would be the same . See you as soon as possible.”
While it is unclear exactly how long Rune will be out of action for, injuries like this can take between nine and 12 months to recover from.
Olympic silver medallist sends message of support to Holger Rune
In the short time since Rune provided this update, the messages have come flooding in for the Dane.
This includes Olympic silver medallist Donna Vekic, who recently admitted she is close to retiring from tennis for good.
In reaction to Rune’s news, Vekic simply wrote, “(Three crying emoji faces) get well soon!!”
Vekic is not the only active player who has already sent a message to Rune, with Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry sending his well wishes to his fellow ATP professional.
Etcheverry wrote, “Speedy recovery Holger (raised hands emoji).”
American player Brandon Nakashima also sent his prayers for Rune, who will now face a long road to recovery after suffering such a serious injury.
