The 2025 tennis season has certainly gotten off to an electric start.
We have seen the ATP’s World number one Jannik Sinner defend the Australian Open title, before being handed a three-month doping ban.
However, the Italian will be back for the next Grand Slam of the season, the French Open, where he reached the semi-finals in 2024.
We have already seen a new Grand Slam champion in Madison Keys who triumphed at Melbourne Park, and now The Tennis Gazette has identified three other ATP players that could win their first major in 2025 or beyond.
Who are the three ATP players that can win a Grand Slam?
Joao Fonseca
As 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva is doing on the WTA Tour, 18-year-old Joao Fonseca has lit up the ATP Tour in 2025.
He has excellent shotmaking and an all-court game that has caught the attention of fans and his fellow rivals, and he already has one title to his name.
Following a scintillating Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open, Fonseca headed to South America and claimed his first title in Buenos Aires.
Fonseca is an incredibly confident player who has shown no fear when playing on the biggest stage against the world’s best, and fans will see more of that at the remaining Grand Slams this season and beyond.
Jack Draper
Jack Draper was one of the players to watch when the 2025 season started following his breakout year in 2024 which produced two titles and a run to the US Open semi-finals.
The British number one was due to commence his season at the United Cup, but injury prevented him from doing so and he did not begin his campaign until the Australian Open.
Draper won three gruelling five-set matches to reach the fourth round at Melbourne Park, where he retired injured against Carlos Alcaraz.
He returned from that injury at the Qatar Open, where reached the finals, picking up impressive wins against Jiri Lehecka and Matteo Berrettini.
Though he has played fewer matches than he would have liked to start the season, Draper has lost just one completed match so far and after reaching the semi-finals in New York, he will be a threat there once again, as well as his home major of Wimbledon.
Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev has been out of the Grand Slam mix for some time given his inability to replicate his from the ATP 500 events at the highest level.
The Russian has lifted 17 titles in his career, but he has never been past the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam. His struggles with controlling his emotions on court have also contributed to his difficulties in winning a major.
But since Rublev lost in the opening round of the Australian Open to Fonseca, Rublev seems more focused and reached the semi-finals in Montpellier and the quarter-finals in Rotterdam.
This led to Rublev’s Qatar Open title win, which is his first championship since the Madrid Open in May 2024.
He certainly has the weapons from the baseline to cause opponents plenty of damage and if Rublev can maintain his form, a Grand Slam win may seem like a more realistic possibility.
