Jack Draper’s fairytale run to the US Open semi-finals was thwarted on Friday by an imposing Jannik Sinner.
A demanding fortnight in New York started to take its toll on Draper, who felt the full effect of Sinner’s punishing groundstrokes under the sun, succumbing 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2.
Draper claimed that he is yet to hit his peak and, with a promising campaign at the US Open which was ended by the world number one in a tight contest, the Brit is only just getting started.
After Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic suffered early exits, Sinner established himself as the clear favorite to clinch the title and he has taken full advantage thus far.
The Italian has been the standout performer on the tour this year and his grand slam season will culminate in another shot at silverware when he faces home hope Taylor Fritz for the title on Sunday.

Jack Draper says what Jannik Sinner’s weakness is
Jannik Sinner is no fool, and although he has been competing at the top end of the sport for many years, 2024 has proved to be the one that has kickstarted an era of supremacy.
After clinching his first grand slam title at the Australian Open, he became the first-ever Italian to reach world number one in singles and has never looked back.
Regardless of the result on Sunday, he will pull even further ahead of his rivals and continue his stranglehold on the rankings.
Speaking after their semi-final clash, Jack Draper was asked to comment on the 23-year-old’s weaknesses.
“He doesn’t have many!” Draper responded. “One… Maybe he is too nice. His forehand is pretty good as well, I will tell you that for a fact!”
Draper elaborates on Sinner’s game following US Open semi-final
For many years, Sinner has been tipped to partner with Carlos Alcaraz in paving the way for the next generation of male superstars.
A second major crown on Sunday would see him halve the deficit of majors to his Spanish rival and establish himself as the favorite to defend his trophy in Melbourne come January.
But what is it about Sinner that makes him so impressive?
“I think Jannik has huge experience already and also the reason why he’s number one in the world,” Draper added. “He’s barely losing matches is because he is so consistent, his intensity, his ball speed.
“He barely has any weaknesses and he is just able to be there point by point and raise his level when he needs to. Mentally, physically, and emotionally everything is consistently improving and he’s rock solid in all areas so he’s tough to beat.”
Despite defeat to Sinner, Draper’s run at the US Open this year was a statement of intent and offers much promise of what is to expect from this exciting generation of players.
