Jannik Sinner is now set for some time on the sidelines after his worst nightmare came true.
The World number one began 2025 the same way he commenced 2024, as Sinner won the Australian Open title for the second time.
But just three weeks after becoming a three-time Grand Slam champion, Sinner accepted a three-month ban for two positive drugs tests last year.
Sinner tested positive for clostebol both during and immediately after the 2024 Indian Wells Masters, where he lost his first match of the year to Carlos Alcaraz.

How many ranking points will Jannik Sinner lose due to his doping ban?
Jannik Sinner has reportedly agreed to a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and accepted a three month ban. This is effective immediately and will run from February 9 until May 4.
The ban comes after WADA appealed against the decision to clear Sinner of any wrongdoing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Therefore, with Sinner now out of action for three months, he will lose 1600 ranking points, with any points from the Indian Wells Masters already removed.
However, it is likely this will not have any impact on the 23-year-old’s status as the World number one.
This is because he currently has a lead of 3,195 points above the World number two Alexander Zverev, who Sinner defeated to win his second successive Australian Open title.

Which tournaments will Jannik Sinner miss due to his suspension?
Sinner has competed in just one tournament since the 2025 season began.
He was due to compete at the Rotterdam Open, but Sinner announced his withdrawal a week before the event commenced.
Now Sinner has been banned, he will also miss next week’s Qatar Open, in addition to this month’s Dubai Tennis Championships and the Rio Open.
The reigning US Open champion will also be unable to compete when the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments get underway.
He will miss the first four tournaments at this level, beginning with the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open in March.
Lastly will not be in the draw for April’s Monte Carlo Masters, Barcelona and Madrid Open events, before being eligible to compete again at his home tournament of the Italian Open in Rome.
