Andrey Rublev has shared what he couldn’t do for days before his stunning win in the Madrid Open final at the weekend.
The Russian player was on fire in the final as he defeated Canadian talent Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Rublev claimed another win on the ATP Tour and it would appear that he’s warming up nicely for the French Open.
The world number six came through in three sets against Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Now, after lifting the trophy, he’s revealed what happened that hampered his preparations at the tournament.

Andrey Rublev shares what he was unable to do before Madrid Open final
Well, this was a decent win for the Russian player and he will be delighted to get back in the winner’s circle.
He’s now won no fewer than 16 career titles and he will hope to push on at Grand Slams in the future.
However, it would appear that the preparations for the latest final he reached hardly went swimmingly.
He’s now disclosed what he was really struggling with during the tournament after his Madrid Open victory.
Rublev told Eurosport: “I have to give full credit to the doctors. They were doing some tricky things and I was able to at least be able to play.
“I would say this is the most proud title of my career. I was almost dead every day and I was not sleeping at night. The last three, four days I didn’t sleep.”
Rublev will hope to stay fit and kick on now
In our view, someone with the talent of Rublev should have made more waves at the major tournaments by now.
Rublev has never reached the semi-final of any major and that simply isn’t good enough at the age of 26.
The Moscow-born star will hope that winning the Madrid Open – and beating Carlos Alcaraz – can give him some confidence for the rest of the year.
A big summer is now upon us and he will hope to get to the latter stages of other – bigger – tournaments this year.
Staying fit is going to be key and it’s interesting he’s praised the doctors.
Rublev always gives his all on the court and hopefully, he can get plenty of rest in and go into the major tournaments this summer with a point to prove.
