Jannik Sinner has won the Australian Open for the second successive year by beating Alexander Zverev in an extremely one-sided final.
Sinner roared to victory in straight sets to win a third Grand Slam title. He retained the title he won for the first time last year with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory in the Rod Laver Arena.
Zverev’s powerful serve was ineffective for large parts of the match. Sinner’s ball striking was truly fierce throughout the contest and ultimately, the German found it very much a case of one match too far.
Sinner has also extended his lead at the top of the ATP World Rankings with this victory. After losing just two sets in seven matches at the Australian Open, the Italian has very confirmed his status as the man to beat.
The 23-year-old truly does have the tennis world on the end of his racket right now. During the game against Zverev, he also created history and in the process eclipsed Roger Federer.

Jannik Sinner breaks record held by Roger Federer during Australian Open Final
Not many envisaged this being such a one-sided affair. Zverev richly deserved his place in the final and has played amazing tennis at times during the last fortnight.
However, he was comprehensively outclassed here and will have to go back to the drawing board and work out a plan to stop Sinner the next time the pair meet in 2025.
Sinner created history for the most consecutive sets won against players in the top 10 of the ATP World Rankings during the win over Zverev and pushed Federer down to second place.
The Swiss legend held the record before the is final, winning 20 consecutive sets against top 10 opposition back in 2006/07, with the three sets won by Sinner against Zverev taking him to 22.
| Most Consecutive Sets Won Against Top 10 Opponents | Total |
| Jannik Sinner – 2024/25 | 22 |
| Roger Federer – 2006/07 | 20 |
| Rafael Nadal – 2012 | 18 |
| Novak Djokovic – 2016 | 17 |
Jannik Sinner equals most wins in first 50 matches as world number one
Sinner was mesmerising at times against Zverev. The ball striking was first class and ultimately, he forced the world number two into far too many unforced errors for him to make more of a fist of things.
Sinner has now played 50 matches as the world number one and in beating Zverev he equalled Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors by winning 47 of those 50 matches as the best player in the land.
At 23, it’s quite scary what Sinner could go on and achieve in tennis. He’s way ahead of the field at the top of the rankings and in this sort of form, it feels like he’s got all of the shots to dominate the sport.
Sinner is a true Italian great as far as tennis is concerned. He became the first Italian – either male or female – to win three Grand Slam singles titles in tennis history, surpassing Nicola Pietrangeli who won two.
