Jannik Sinner has yet to comment on Carlos Alcaraz’s split from Juan Carlos Ferrero, but his thoughts on the situation have now been speculated.
Alcaraz and Ferrero announced their shock split two weeks ago, despite preparations for the Australian Open already being underway.
There has been a lot of speculation over the real reason for the split, as well as whether Alcaraz will now hire a replacement for Ferrero.
Ferrero has even commented on whether he would coach Sinner in the future, and what Alcaraz’s biggest rival is thinking has now been theorized.
Rick Macci suggests what Jannik Sinner could be thinking about Carlos Alcaraz’s coaching split
Alcaraz and Sinner dominated the ATP Tour again in 2025, winning all four Grand Slam titles for a second consecutive year.
It has been suggested that world number one Alcaraz could be negatively impacted after parting ways with Ferrero, leaving the door open for Sinner to take over at the top of the ATP rankings once again.
This is something that Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has implied Sinner could be thinking about ahead of the 2026 season.
Macci wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Other players maybe even Sinner might see an opening with Carlos and his split. The mindset of players is always those microscopic little moments that ignite the BIG C to pull the trigger to go bigger and when they believe they achieve.”
Sinner cannot dethrone Alcaraz as world number one until after the Australian Open, but he will have an opportunity to return to the top of the ATP rankings during the sunshine double and the clay court swing.

Although there have been many suggestions that Ferrero leaving his team could impact Alcaraz’s goal to win the Australian Open, this is not something that Macci agrees with.
In an additional social media post, Macci appeared to back Alcaraz to remain as world number one and even reach the numbers of Novak Djokovic.
Macci wrote, “Alcaraz will be just fine. Adversity makes you stronger and last longer. Every time he loses the chirping will be about the coaching change. When it is all said and done the Spanish Magician will be number one and be right there with the Joker [Djokovic] as the GOAT STROKER.”

He added, “Players change coaches like socks. Because Carlos is number one and JCF (Juan Carlos Ferrero) was involved for many years with success people overreact and throw darts and have fears. He knows how to play all day and he had the final say about pay and we will see if it works his way.”
Alcaraz will not play any tournaments before the Australian Open, but he will play an exhibition match against Sinner in Seoul, South Korea.
