That being said, Ferrero did not rule out returning as Alcaraz’s coach in the future, given that the stumbling block in their contract negotiations was not financial.
That means it can be sorted out, with a little flexibility from both parties and a genuine willingness to reunite.
Who would you like to see coach Carlos Alcaraz next?
Speaking to MARCA, Ferrero revealed exactly what Alcaraz could have done to convince him to stay: “It seemed that everything was going well, but there were aspects about the new contract that we didn’t agree on.
“Carlos’ entourage thinks about what is best for him. I, from my point of view, think about what is best for me.
“Sitting down and talking, we could have fixed everything, but we didn’t. I didn’t talk to Alcaraz; his agents had already made him aware of everything.”
Juan Carlos Ferrero backs Samu Lopez to succeed with Carlos Alcaraz
Despite the manner of their split, Ferrero still seemingly wants only the best for Carlos Alcaraz.
And, he seemed confident that, under the watchful eye of Samu Lopez, he was in good hands.
He revealed the reasons why they brought him in initially, adding: “Wear and tear is natural when you spend so much time together. I think constant travelling, being away from home, those things wear you down.

“However, we supported each other within the team, and one reason for bringing in Samuel was to prevent that strain, introducing new perspectives and approaches with the same goal but in a different manner to counteract potential fatigue.”
Now, it will be down to Lopez to lead Alcaraz into 2026, where he can hopefully continue as if unbothered by this disappointing split.
