Boris Becker shared his thoughts on why he thinks Jannik Sinner had a fantastic 2024 season.
The Italian had a strong end to 2023, defeating Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals and saving match points before beating him again at the Davis Cup finals.
He has since stunned the tennis world by what achieved this year, as he firmly established himself as the world’s best player.
Sinner was utterly dominant in 2024, and he is certainly the man to beat heading into what looks to be an exciting 2025 season.
What does Boris Becker think helped Jannik Sinner become so successful in 2024?
In 2024 Jannik Sinner produced one of the best individual seasons in tennis history.
He lost just six matches and failed to lose a match in straight sets, joining Roger Federer as the only men to achieve that feat in a single campaign.
He claimed nine titles, two of which were Grand Slams, and in the process became the World number one for the first time.
Aside from his breathtaking tennis abilities, former player Andrea Petkovic says six-time Grand Slam winner Boris Becker believes Sinner’s careful management of his schedule and fitness contributed to his success this season.
“I talked to Boris Becker recently and he told me he thinks that among the tennis reasons why Jannik is so great and is the best is that he has the perfect team by his side,” Petkovic said during a guest appearance on the Rennae Stubbs podcast.
“He said he plays the least tournaments, when he feels tired or injured he pulls out, he keeps his energies and manages his emotions.
“And he has this black cloud above his head and he goes ‘I didn’t sleep that well, it was bothering me’. Imagine what he does next year when it’s not bothering him! Is he going to be 20,000 points ahead of everyone else?”

Jannik Sinner ends 2024 season with successful Davis Cup title defence
Fresh off winning the ATP Finals on home soil in Turin, Sinner was drafted into Italy’s team for the Davis Cup finals.
The 23-year-old played four matches during the ‘Final 8‘ in Malaga, and went unbeaten as Italy became the first team to successfully defend the Davis Cup title.
They came from behind to beat Argentina 2-1 in the quarter-finals, and Sinner won his singles encounter before winning the design double match alongside Matteo Berrettini.
He then comprehensively defeated Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals before a 7-6, 6-2 over Tallon Griekspoor in the final to ensure Italy remained champions of the world.
“It has been an amazing year. I’m very proud of the whole team,” said Sinner. “There is a lot of work behind it and I’m very happy to hold this trophy again. It was a very difficult day today, because anything can happen.”
