The 2024 World Cup of Tennis continues with the Davis Cup Final 8, so take a look at everything you need to know from all of the players to how to watch live in the USA.

Spain is playing host to two weeks of elite tennis to cap the 2024 season with the Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup. The tournaments briefly overlap before attentions focus on the Davis Cup and which men’s team will be named the champion in the knockout competition.

Only eight nations remain in the Davis Cup following the group stage and four countries will have just one game. Spain will hope their run lasts much longer, not only as the host nation but also as Rafael Nadal will retire after the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 and end a storied career.

Everything you need to know about the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8

Nadal confirmed in October that the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 will be the last tournament that the 22-time Grand Slam champion will play. The Mallorca native will now hope to add to his personal tally of four Davis Cup titles having helped Spain win in 2004, 2009, 2011 and 2019.

Spain would draw level with Sweden for the fifth-most Davis Cup titles if Nadal and ATP Tour No3 Carlos Alcaraz can guide them to glory in 2024. Only the United States of America (32), Australia (28), France and Great Britain (10) have won it more than Sweden (7) and Spain (6).

So, with that in mind, The Tennis Gazette takes a look into everything that you need to know ahead of the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 in Malaga as Spain seek to give Nadal a dream sendoff.

What are the dates for when the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 takes place?

The 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 will last just six days and takes place from Tuesday, November 19 to Sunday, November 24. The first two days of the tournament overlap with the ending of the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup as the women’s title for the World Cup of Tennis is decided.

What is the format for the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8?

Like in previous years, the Davis Cup Final 8 will adopt a straight knockout format in 2024 as the eight qualifying nations compete to win the men’s title for the World Cup of Tennis. The tournament starts with four quarter-finals preceding two semi-finals before the overall final.

Every game at the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 is best-of-three matches, and the first two ties are both singles matches. The final match in any tie would be a doubles match if both teams win one singles match. Spain as the hosts cannot face the reigning champions until the final.

What is the order of play for the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8?

Spain as the host nation will start the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 against the Netherlands in the only match on the first day of play. Day two will also only boast one match as Germany play Canada due to the climax of the Billie Jean King Cup before the Davis Cup gets centre stage.

Spain and Italy were drawn in opposite halves of the draw for the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 as the host nation and defending champions. They can only meet in the final if Spain and Italy survive with their teams featuring the two 2024 Grand Slam champions, Alcaraz and Sinner.

Italy won the Davis Cup in 2023 with a 2-0 victory against Australia in the final, marking their second title and first since 1976. Matteo Arnaldi and Sinner beat Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 and Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-0 respectively to see Italy win the 2023 Davis Cup final in Malaga.

Lorenzo Musetti, Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego also helped Italy to see off Novak Djokovic and Serbia in the semi-finals last year. Italy also started their run to the 2023 title with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands in the quarter-finals, as their first tie lasted the three-match distance.

Where will the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 take place?

Malaga is staging the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup Final 8 over two weeks in November. Both events will take place in Malaga after the Junta de Andalucia requested to relocate the Billie Jean King Cup and it was decided to pair it with the Davis Cup at one site.

The International Tennis Federation has confirmed that a prize purse totalling $5,892,857 will be up for grabs for the eight teams competing at the 2024 Davis Cup Final. Any prize money secured in Spain will be split equally among the players representing each country to qualify.

Predictions for the winner of the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8

Ahead of the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8, our expert team of writers at The Tennis Gazette have shared their predictions for which country has the best chance of winning it all in Malaga.

Sammy France: “Italy look primed to clinch the Davis Cup once again. Italian tennis is experiencing an incredible rise in all ways, with old talent confirming their status while the new break through.

“With Lorenzo Musetti securing an Olympic bronze and Jannik Sinner the unrivalled world number one, their team is in top shape. Last year’s victory ended a 47-year wait for the Davis Cup trophy but I’m confident that Italy is primed to make it two in a row.”

Lee Clarke: “It might be a bit left-field but I will go for Italy. I would back Jannik Sinner to win anything that involved playing tennis at the moment and the Italian is clearly the best player in the world right now.

“He’s way ahead of the field at the top of the world rankings and that could see him enter the Davis Cup with a bit of a swagger. Lorenzo Musetti hasn’t had a bad year either and he will back the world number one up very well.

“The 2024 Davis Cup Final 8 draw perhaps isn’t as kind as it might be for Italy but they’re my pick for the title this year.”

Liam Llewellyn: “The 2024 Davis Cup Finals is set to be an extra special occasion in tennis history due to the retirement of 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.

“Spanish fans will provide raucous support to Nadal and his teammates, and it will be needed against some tough opposition.

“Nadal’s farewell will be a special one regardless of the result. But the trio of Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton, in addition the experienced doubles pairing of Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek, make Team USA favorites for a record-extending 33rd Davis Cup title.”
