Italian tennis is in superb shape at this moment in time thanks to the nation’s runs at the Davis Cup Finals and Billie Jean King Cup.

ATP Tour number one Jannik Sinner is impressing at the Davis Cup Finals for Italy, who are into back-to-back finals in Malaga.

Italy won the 2023 Davis Cup as they beat Australia 2-0, with that same scoreline playing out in this year’s semi-finals.

Sinner beat Alex de Minaur as Italy secured their final place, having beaten Argentina 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

And the Netherlands are into their first Davis Cup final after a semi-final victory over Germany, having overcome Spain in the quarter-finals.

Jannik Sinner and Jasmine Paolini help Italy break 33-year record

The strong journey from the Italian men comes after their female counterparts lifted the Billie Jean King Cup earlier this week after a 2-0 win over Slovakia.

The runs represent a superb feat for the nation, with Italy becoming only the third nation to reach back-to-back Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup finals, and the first since 1991, as per OptaAce.

Can Italy win the Davis Cup after Billie Jean King Cup success?

While the men enjoyed 2023 Davis Cup finals success, the women were not as fortunate, losing to Canada in Seville last year.

This time around, however, WTA Tour number four Jasmine Paolini and her Italy teammates ensured history did not repeat itself.

Like Paolini, Lucia Bronzetti won her first Billie Jean King Cup, while veteran Sara Errani clinched her fourth.

Italy team captain Tathiana Garbin meanwhile deserves huge credit for guiding Italy to their first title since 2013 and fifth overall.

The men’s side meanwhile are two-time Davis Cup winners, while the Netherlands are looking to cause an upset in what is their first appearance in the final.
