Europe dominates the year-end rankings after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
For a second consecutive season, Aryna Sabalenka has ended the year as world number one after winning four titles including the US Open.
This means that Europe has had a player end the year as world number one for the past four years now, with Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek claiming the top spot in 2022 and 2023.
The last player not from Europe to finish the year as world number one is Australian Ash Barty, who shockingly retired in 2022 at just 25 years old.
Barty is no longer the top-ranked player from Australia or Oceania, with a player holding that honor for the first time this year.

Top ranked player from each continent including Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina
North America – Coco Gauff
North America on the WTA Tour has been dominated by players from the USA, and it was unclear as to who was going to take the spot going into the final tournament of the season.
Amanda Anisimova reached the final of Wimbledon and the US Open this year, and was putting real pressure on Coco Gauff.
However, after Gauff won the Wuhan Open she was able to hold off Anisimova and finish the season as the top ranked player from North America for a third consecutive year.
How far will Coco Gauff go at the 2026 Australian Open?
Gauff is likely to face pressure again in 2026, with there currently four players ranked inside the top 10 of the WTA rankings.
While the top five North American players are from USA, Canadians Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez are not far behind Emma Navarro.
| Rank | Name | WTA Ranking | Country |
| 1 | Coco Gauff | 3 | USA |
| 2 | Amanda Anisimova | 4 | USA |
| 3 | Jessica Pegula | 6 | USA |
| 4 | Madison Keys | 7 | USA |
| 5 | Emma Navarro | 15 | USA |
South America – Emiliana Arango
Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia had been the highest-ranked South American player at the end of the season for the past three years, but she has now been dethroned.
It has been a difficult season for Haddad Maia, who has fallen to her lowest ranking since 2022 after winning just 16 of her 42 matches this year.
As a result, Colombian Emiliana Arango has taken that spot from Haddad Maia after enjoying the best season of her career.

Arango made her top-50 debut in 2025 after reaching two WTA 500 finals and winning a WTA 125 title in Cancun.
| Rank | Name | WTA Ranking | Country |
| 1 | Emiliana Arango | 49 | Colombia |
| 2 | Beatriz Haddad Maia | 57 | Brazil |
| 3 | Solana Sierra | 66 | Argentina |
| 4 | Camila Osorio | 78 | Colombia |
| 5 | Maria Lourdes Carle | 151 | Argentina |
Asia – Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina was having a mixed season until the Asian swing, and actually fell outside the top 10 for a brief period.
However, it was in Asia where she really came into her end, capping off with Rybakina beating Sabalenka to win the WTA Finals, her biggest career title since winning Wimbledon in 2022.

As a result, this has made Kazakhstani Rybakina the highest-ranked player representing an Asian country, with Naomi Osaka following her after a resurgent season.
This honour previously belonged to Qinwen Zheng, who has struggled with an arm injury and has only played two matches since Wimbledon.
There are also two emerging talents from Asia, with both Miami Open semifinalist Alexandra Eala and WTA title winner Janice Tjen making history for their respective nations.
| Rank | Name | WTA Ranking | Country |
| 1 | Elena Rybakina | 5 | Kazakhstan |
| 2 | Naomi Osaka | 16 | Japan |
| 3 | Qinwen Zheng | 24 | China |
| 4 | Alexandra Eala | 52 | Philippines |
| 5 | Janice Tjen | 53 | Indonesia |
Asia – Maya Joint
Australia may not have had a Grand Slam champion since Barty, but they do have an emerging young talent in Maya Joint.
Joint has won her first two WTA titles this year, which has enabled the 19-year-old to become Australian and Oceanian number one for the first time.

Former top 10 player Daria Kasatkina, who made the switch from Russia to Australia this year, held that position for most of 2025, but was overtaken in the latter stages of the season.
This marks the return of the top-ranked Oceanian WTA player being from Australia, with New Zealand’s Lulu Sun leading that race at the end of 2024.
| Rank | Name | WTA Ranking | Country |
| 1 | Maya Joint | 32 | Australia |
| 2 | Daria Kasatkina | 37 | Australia |
| 3 | Ajla Tomljanovic | 80 | Australia |
| 4 | Lulu Sun | 90 | New Zealand |
| 5 | Kimberley Birrell | 98 | Australia |
Africa – Ons Jabeur
Ons Jabeur has not played a match since Wimbledon, where she announced she was taking a break after speaking about her mental health struggles, but she is still the top-ranked African player.
Currently ranked as the world number 76, Jabeur is 39 places ahead of the second-highest player from Africa, which is Egyptian Mayar Sherif.

However, that will change next year, as Jabeur will be taking an extended break after announcing that she is pregnant with her first child.
This will leave a big opportunity for Sherif, and while there have been rumours Jabeur has confirmed she is not retiring yet.
| Rank | Name | WTA Ranking | Country |
| 1 | Ons Jabeur | 76 | Tunisia |
| 2 | Mayar Sherif | 109 | Egypt |
| 3 | Sada Nahimana | 224 | Burundi |
| 4 | Sandra Samir | 399 | Egypt |
| 5 | Yasmine Kabbaj | 429 | Morocco |
Who are the top 10 European players on the WTA Tour?
While there are many top tennis players from across the globe, the WTA Tour is dominated by European players.
Five of the current top 10, and 12 of the top 20, are all from Europe, led by four-time Grand Slam champion Sabalenka.
Who will win the 2026 Australian Open?
This includes two players making their debut in the top 10 this year in Mirra Andreeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova.
| Rank | Name | WTA Ranking | Country |
| 1 | Aryna Sabalenka | 1 | Belarus |
| 2 | Iga Swiatek | 2 | Poland |
| 3 | Jasmine Paolini | 8 | Italy |
| 4 | Mirra Andreeva | 9 | Russia |
| 5 | Ekaterina Alexandrova | 10 | Russia |
| 6 | Belinda Bencic | 11 | Switzerland |
| 7 | Clara Tauson | 12 | Denmark |
| 8 | Linda Noskova | 13 | Czechia |
| 9 | Elina Svitolina | 14 | Ukraine |
| 10 | Liudmila Samsonova | 17 | Russia |
The ranking representation on the WTA Tour is similar to that of the ATP Tour, which is dominated even more by players from Europe.
It will be intriguing to see if this continues in the 2026 season, which will get underway at the United Cup on January 2.
