Victoria Mboko is one of six players to enjoy a major breakthrough on the WTA Tour this year.

Mboko had received praise from Coco Gauff earlier in the year, having risen from outside the top 300 after winning a significant number of matches on the ITF Tour.

The teenager made a smooth transition to the main WTA Tour, and Mboko went on a stunning run to the Canadian Open title that included beating Gauff.

This has not been the only success that the Canadian has achieved this year, with Mboko also winning the Hong Kong Tennis Open to wrap up her breakthrough season.

After winning her second main tour title, Mboko has risen to a career-high ranking, but she is not the only player to have won her first WTA title this year.

One of the big stories from the 2025 season came at the second Grand Slam of the year, where French wildcard Lois Boisson reached the Roland Garros semifinals.

Boisson was unable to continue this momentum at Wimbledon, but she showed her credentials on clay in Hamburg where she would win her first WTA title.

Mboko has won another title after winning her first at the Canadian Open, but she has not been the only breakout teenage star of 2025.

Australian Maya Joint won her first WTA title on the clay of Rabat, and also showcased her all-court ability during the grass court season.

Playing against another breakout player from 2025, Joint beat Alexandra Eala in a dramatic Eastbourne final to win her second WTA title.

There has also been a rising American teenage star, with Iva Jovic winning the Guadalajara Open to make a huge jump up the rankings and be in contention to become seeded at the Australian Open next year.

The other two first-time WTA champions in 2025 are Janice Tjen, who Emma Raducanu described as very dangerous, after she won her first title in Chennai, and another Frenchwoman in Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah, who triumphed in Sao Paolo.

Who is the highest ranked player on the WTA Tour without a title?

While all of these players celebrate their respective successes on the WTA Tour this year, some highly talented players are still yet to get their hands on some silverware.

Anna Kalinskaya has been ranked as high as world number 11 and has even been in a Grand Slam quarterfinal, but she has still never won a main tour title.

The Russian is now the world number 33, but she is still the highest ranked active player who has never won a title.

Washington Open 2025 (WTA 500)Leylah Fernandez beat Kalinskaya, 6-1 6-2

She has reached three WTA Finals in her career, including Leylah Fernandez beating Kalinskaya in the Washington Open final earlier this year.

Kalinskaya was within touching distance of winning her first WTA title last year, when she had five championship points in the final of the Berlin Tennis Open against Jessica Pegula.

While Kalinskaya is the current top ranked player without a trophy, she is not the highest ranked WTA player never to win a title.
