Coco Gauff was prepared for all eventualities against Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final.
Gauff fought back to beat Sabalenka, despite losing the first set in a closely fought tie-break.
The 21-year-old is now a multiple-time Grand Slam champion, and Gauff has been congratulated by Carlos Alcaraz as well alongside many others.
After Gauff won the French Open final against Sabalenka, former world number one Tracy Austin revealed that her compatriot had actually prepared for a different type of final.

What Coco Gauff did in the warm-up before the French Open final that turned out to be unnecessary
There have been a lot of different opinions about why Gauff was able to beat Sabalenka, including from the players themselves.
When analysing the match on Tennis Channel Live, the aforementioned Austin was full of praise for how Gauff conducted herself against an ‘anxious’ Sabalenka.
Austin also revealed that Gauff was expecting the roof to be closed on Court Philippe-Chatrier during the final due to forecasted rain, and had actually practiced for that possibility that did not become reality.
“What a lesson from Coco Gauff on how to handle adversity,” said Austin. “It was windy today, she thought originally that it was going to be indoors and so she actually warmed up indoors, played the last two matches indoors.
“When she came out she was so composed, never let the power of Sabalenka bother her. Whereas Sabalenka was bothered by everything, she looked anxious, she was looking at her team.
“And Coco just went back to the fundamentals, (her) brain was always working and just super proud with the way that she handled that entire match and actually all seven matches. A lot of adversity to win a major, so congratulations Coco Gauff on winning Roland Garros.”
What is next for Coco Gauff?
There is little time for Gauff to celebrate after her second Grand Slam title win, as attention will quickly turn to the grass court season.
Despite it being the surface where Gauff had her breakout win over Venus Williams, she has statistically favoured clay and hard courts since then.
Gauff will be playing the same two tournaments on grass as last year, just competing at the WTA 500 event in Berlin before Wimbledon.
| Points Gauff is defending | |
| Berlin Open | 195 (SF) |
| Wimbledon | 240 (R16) |
The world number two has 435 points to defend during the grass court season and Gauff will be looking to improve at Wimbledon, where she is yet to surpass the fourth round in her five previous appearances.
Gauff and Sabalenka will both compete at the tournament in Berlin that begins on Monday, June 16.
