Coco Gauff won her second Major title in Paris, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final.

When Gauff won her first Grand Slam at the US Open in 2023, many thought she’d pick up a second before too long.

It may have taken her longer than she expected, with Gauff failing to return to a final at any of her next five Major tournaments.

Doing so in her sixth, the American wasn’t going to pass up on a chance to add more silverware to her collection, as Gauff defeated Sabalenka to win the 2025 French Open.

Reacting to the 21-year-old’s Roland Garros triumph, former world number one Chris Evert predicted whether Gauff will ever win Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Chris Evert says Coco Gauff will ‘win all of them’ when asked if she can win Wimbledon and Australian Open

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Evert was asked whether Gauff can complete the Career Grand Slam by winning Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

“She is going to win all of them, yeah. For sure, she can win on every surface,” she said.

“She has won on clay and on hard. I can definitely see that she can win Wimbledon.”

Evert did, however, question Gauff’s ability to win Wimbledon in 2025, highlighting the player who may stand in her way.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be this year because I’m looking at [Aryna] Sabalenka and thinking she didn’t play last year because she was injured, and she didn’t play the year they didn’t let the Russians play,” she said.

“She has missed a few years but to me that surface will be her best surface because of her power.”

The 18-time Major champion suggested Gauff could ‘dominate’ on clay for years to come.

“Everyone has always been talking about Iga [Swiatek] and her dominance on red clay, but Coco [Gauff] can have dominance on red clay for sure, the way she played,” said Evert.

“She plays Iga’s game a little bit better. She beat her what? 6-1, 6-1 a couple of weeks ago. I think when I start looking at Roland Garros picks, I am always going to go for Coco before I go for anybody else.”

Gauff beat Swiatek 6-1, 6-1 at the Madrid Open last month, handing the Pole her worst clay-court defeat in six years.

Regardless of the surface, Evert believes Gauff will win Grand Slam titles for ‘a long, long time’.

“She has so many ahead of her. We saw that at 15 years old. We saw it when she beat Venus [Williams] at Wimbledon, and we thought this girl is going to be winning 10, 12, 14 major titles,” she said.

“She has got the game, if she can stay healthy. She knows defence and offence. Her forehand is looking so good now, so much better than before.

“When she needed her serve, it was there for her, even though she had eight double faults.

“She loves the game and she is going to be around for a long, long time winning majors.”

Chris Evert says she was ‘amazed’ by Coco Gauff’s ‘defence’ against Aryna Sabalenka

Reflecting on the match itself, Evert highlighted what Gauff did that really impressed her.

“I think the fact that she did not have ups and downs. I think Aryna really had too many ups and downs,” she said.

“She had 70 unforced errors. I mean, 70 unforced errors. She just could not keep that consistent level of high quality.

“I am impressed with the way that Coco finally caught on to her power.

“In the beginning, I thought Sabalenka was going to wipe her off the court. But she found a way.

“She got quicker and she got her timing back and she made adjustments in her game so that she could return those hard shots.

“She stayed patient, she believed in herself, she fought.”

Evert explained what Gauff did against Sabalenka that always ‘amazes’ her.

“I am always amazed by the defence,” she said.

“She gets balls back that nobody else on the tour gets back, and it forces players like Sabalenka to go for too much, or it wears them down, or she really extends the rallies.

“On clay being so slow, it drives people crazy to have to return so many balls against Coco Gauff.”

It won’t be long before Gauff is back in action, driving her rivals crazy, as she is scheduled to return at the Berlin WTA 500 event, which begins on June 16.
