Coco Gauff has made a big decision ahead of the US Open as she hires Gavin MacMillan to help improve her serve.
Gauff has ended her relationship with Matt Daly, but is working with MacMillan as the final Grand Slam of the year arrives.
She enters the US Open after falling in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open to eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini.
Paolini lost the Cincinnati Open final to Iga Swiatek, who has overtaken Gauff into second place in the world rankings with the success.
All three WTA players have now turned their attention to New York, where Gauff lifted the trophy in 2023 for her maiden Grand Slam title.

What Jon Wertheim has heard about Coco Gauff hiring Gavin MacMillan
She has since added the 2025 French Open title, but the American clearly feels the need to improve her serve given her work with MacMillan.
And journalist Jon Wertheim has now shared what he’s heard about the biomechanic coach, who has previously worked with Aryna Sabalenka.

Wertheim wrote on X: “FWIW, from a well-regarded coach: ‘Coco made a fantastic hire. I’ve seen Gavin work. Been in the room watching him teach biomechanics to pitchers post-surgery… he knows what he is doing in a way that is WAY beyond most traditional tennis coaches’.”
How does Coco Gauff’s serving compare to her WTA top five rivals?
Despite her superb success in her relatively brief career so far, Gauff clearly needs some work on her serve.
And she deserves huge praise for not only recognising that, but by taking a concrete step to try and fix the issue.
Her endless double fault struggles are now well known, with the American ranking first in that regard this season after finishing last season in the same spot.
Still, it’s very important to remember Gauff’s phenomenal honours list despite her serving problems, which aged just 21 includes 10 WTA titles.
Two Grand Slam titles are on that list, while the American has managed to reach number two in the world rankings.
And that should serve as a warning to her rivals, whereby Gauff can become an even bigger threat should she iron out her issues with MacMillan.
