Carlos Alcaraz continues to impress at Indian Wells, which has now reached the semi-finals stage across the ATP and WTA tours.

Alcaraz is into a fourth successive semi-final or better at Indian Wells, having lifted the trophy in each of the last two years.

Spanish star Alcaraz now meets British number one Jack Draper in the last four, with Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev in the other semi-final.

On the WTA Tour, a repeat of the 2025 Australian Open final is incoming, with Melbourne champion Madison Keys taking on Aryna Sabalenka.

Keys defeated the Belarusian in January for her maiden Grand Slam title, with Sabalenka now eyeing revenge at Indian Wells.

Mirra Andreeva compared to Carlos Alcaraz after reaching Indian Wells semi-finals

But another stunning storyline is emerging in the other half of the draw, with world number two Iga Swiatek taking on Mirra Andreeva.

And it is the latter who has really caught the eye of former world number five and two-time Indian Wells champion Daniela Hantuchova, who said on The Tennis podcast: “She’s become just like Carlos, a very quick student of the game and almost the full package by now which is crazy at her age.

“She has so many different ways that she can win matches and that’s why she’s so fun to watch. I’m liking her slice backhands now, a few drop shots on the forehand side as well.

“I’m starting to be a little bit nervous about my pick [to win the title] of Aryna Sabalenka. I can relate to the feeling when you start to play good in this tournament and you start to feel like ‘why shouldn’t I win this tournament?’ – especially given how well she played in Dubai with similar conditions.”

Mirra Andreeva the anomaly as Indian Wells reaches semi-finals stage

Andreeva has taken her superb form from the Dubai Tennis Championships into Indian Wells, having won the WTA 1000 event last month.

The 17-year-old beat fellow rising star Clara Tauson in the final to clinch her second tour-level title, beating the likes of Swiatek and Rybakina along the way.

She has enjoyed a stunning rise in women’s tennis, and currently occupies 11th in the world rankings after recently reaching ninth, a career-high.

After beating Elina Svitolina, Andreeva now finds herself in fine company in the last four in California, where she is the last remaining player without a Grand Slam title.

The Russian does, however, join Keys, Swiatek and Sabalenka as the players with the most WTA match wins in 2025, as per OptaAce.
