Stefanos Tsitsipas was only able to win one game against Arthur Fils in a heavy defeat at the Miami Open.

Tsitsipas recently fell to his lowest ranking in eight years after dropping outside the top 50 following poor form.

However, the Greek had shown signs of resurgence in Miami, with Tsitsipas causing an upset against Alex de Minaur to reach the third round.

This resurgence was very short-lived, as Tsitsipas was left frustrated in a 55-minute defeat to Fils in Miami.

Stefanos Tsitsipas complains about the lights at the Miami Open

Fils, who returned from a long-term back injury last month, had won all four previous meetings against Tsitsipas heading into their meeting at the Miami Open.

The Frenchman continued his dominance in this head-to-head, with Fils beating Tsitsipas 6-0, 6-1 in the most emphatic win yet.

Not only was Tsitsipas disappointed with the 26 unforced errors he hit against Fils, but he was also irritated with the lights on Stadium Court at the Miami Open.

Tsitsipas expressed this frustration to chair umpire Greg Allensworth, claiming that the tournament should be ‘ashamed’.

“You should be ashamed of this,” said Tsitsipas. “Have you ever seen me miss every shot after the serve like I’m doing today? It doesn’t happen. I cannot see the ball. I don’t know how he sees the ball.”

While Tsitsipas was struggling with the lights, Fils described it as the ‘best match’ he has played in his life after hitting just seven unforced errors.

Arthur Fils now has a big opportunity to make a deep run at the Miami Open

Fils has continued his impressive return to the ATP Tour, having won 11 of his 15 matches following his seven-month period on the sidelines.

The world number 31 now has a big opportunity to make his best ever run at a Masters 1000 tournament, with Fils looking to take advantage of Carlos Alcaraz’s shock exit from the Miami Open.

Alcaraz’s exit from the Miami Open means that there is only one top 10 player remaining in the top half of the draw, where Fils is placed.

That top 10 player is Taylor Fritz, who Fils won his only previous meeting against.
