Stefanos Tsitsipas delivered a big upset in the second round of the Miami Open by defeating fifth-seeded Alex de Minaur.
The Greek star, who overcame Britain’s Arthur Fery in round one, overcame De Minaur in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, to advance.
Tsitsipas improved his dominant head-to-head record against the Australian and now leads the rivalry 12-1.

Since winning the Rotterdam title, De Minaur has suffered three early exits, crashing out in the early stages of Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.
With his victory, Tsitsipas has just achieved a feat he has not managed in nearly two years.

Tsitsipas’ win over De Minaur was his first top-ten triumph at an ATP Masters 1000 competition since 2024.
His last such result came at the Monte-Carlo Masters final two seasons ago, where he beat Casper Ruud in the final.

Since emerging victorious in Monte-Carlo that year, Tsitsipas has struggled at Masters tournaments.
His best result has been a quarterfinal finish, which he achieved at the 2024 Italian Open, the 2024 Paris Masters, and the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters.
To kick off his 2026 Masters campaign, Tsitsipas suffered a first-round exit at the Indian Wells Open.

In his on-court interview after beating De Minaur, Tsitsipas said: “There were moments in the match that felt really good.
“I had to handle the nerves towards the end. It’s not easy having to handle moments and situations like this against Alex.
“He’s a very tough competitor, gets a lot of balls back, so I had to work quite hard for my points.”
In the third round, Tsitsipas will take on 28th seed Arthur Fils, who has been impressive since returning from injury in February.
Fils, who reached a career-high ranking of 14th in 2025, made it to the final of the Qatar Open as well as the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Open.
The Frenchman has never lost to Tsitsipas across four meetings, though the last two bouts have come on clay.
