Stefanos Tsitsipas has been continuing his love affair with the Monte Carlo Masters this week, having just reached the quarter-final.

Tsitsipas has pleased tennis fans after agreeing to hire Goran Ivanisevic as his new coach, although their partnership will only begin after the French Open.

The Greek star is currently focused on the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters, a tournament he has won three times.

ATP number eight Tsitsipas meets Lorenzo Musetti in this year’s quarter-finals, having knocked out Jordan Thompson and Nuno Borges.

He is the sixth seed in Monaco, with top seed Alexander Zverev having suffered a shock loss to Matteo Berrettini in his first match of the ATP 1000 event.

Stefanos Tsitsipas equals Rafael Nadal Monte Carlo Masters quarter-final record

Tsitsipas emerged victorious at the tournament in 2021 and 2022, before completing a hat-trick of wins in 2024.

But the King of Clay Rafael Nadal remains the most successful player in Monte Carlo, boasting 11 titles there.

Tsitsipas has, however, now managed to emulate the legend in one aspect, having just become only the second player after Nadal to reach the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-finals in five consecutive years since 2000, as per OptaAce.

Stefanos Tsitsipas dominates Monte Carlo Masters since 2021

Winning at the Monte Carlo Masters isn’t for every player on the ATP Tour, but winning in successive years is even more rare.

But both Tsitsipas and Nadal have managed that impressive feat, with the latter taking that record to another level.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion, who retired late last year, won an Open Era record eight successive titles in Monaco from 2005 to 2012.

It will take some doing for Tsitsipas to emulate that record, but he is certainly going about things the right way.

Intriguingly, it is the first clay-court season without Nadal since 2002, leaving the door open for other players to take centre stage.

Holger Rune thinks Carlos Alcaraz is the best player on clay, with the Spaniard having also made it to the quarter-finals in Monaco.
