Stan Wawrinka issued a statement in response to Jannik Sinner’s doping ban.
During a day where the likes of Joao Fonseca was aiming to reach his first final on the ATP Tour, shocking news emerged regarding the World number one.
Sinner has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) from February 9 to May 4 following two failed drug tests in 2024.
Sinner tested positive for clostebol, on two occasions, both during and after last season’s Indian Wells Masters, where he reached the semi-finals.

Stan Wawrinka reacts to Jannik Sinner’s three-month doping ban
WADA confirmed that Jannik Sinner agreed to a settlement which resulted in his two-game ban.
The ban comes after WADA appealed against the decision to clear the 23-year-old of any wrongdoing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
In a statement WADA said: “WADA accepts that Mr Sinner did not intend to cheat and that his exposure to clostebol did not provide any performance-enhancing benefit and took place without his knowledge as the result of negligence of members of his entourage.”
Plenty of fans have reacted to the news and some of Sinner’s fellow players, including three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka. “I don’t believe in a clean sport anymore,” the Swiss player wrote on X.

Jannik Sinner releases statement after receiving doping suspension
Sinner played for the majority of 2024 with the possibility of a suspension hanging over him.
Now it has been confirmed that he will be out of action until May, the reigning Australian Open and US Open champion released a statement reacting to the news.
“This case had been hanging over me for nearly a year and the process still had a long time to run with a decision maybe only at the end of the year.
“I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and realise Wada’s strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love. On that basis I have accepted Wada’s offer to resolve these proceedings on the basis of a three-month sanction.”
Despite playing with the possibility of suspension, Sinner managed to win nine titles in 2024, including the Davis Cup, and claim the World number one ranking for the first time.
