Nick Kyrgios was among those impressed as Casper Ruud overcame Gael Monfils in the US Open second round.

Andy Murray messaged Ruud after his latest US Open victory, with the Norwegian beating the Frenchman 6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(7-3).

Ruud now takes on Shang Juncheng in round three at Flushing Meadows, with his second round display catching the eye of Kyrgios.

The Australian certainly hasn’t always been a fan of Ruud, with the duo entering into a feud after their first-ever meeting back in 2019.

As reported by the Daily Mail, a hot-tempered Kyrgios threw a racket and was defaulted in their Italian Open clash.

Has Nick Kyrgios changed his opinion on Casper Ruud?

Ruud quickly labelled Kyrgios an idiot and called for a six-month ban, with the latter responding by saying he’d rather watch paint dry than Ruud play tennis.

The Australian then enacted his revenge on the court by winning their 2022 Indian Wells meeting, after which he looked down the camera and said ‘I hear no talking now, none.’

But Kyrgios has seemingly changed his opinion on the Norwegian, writing on X after his win over Monfils: “Ruud going under the radar… how times have turned, I really enjoy watching his tennis. Real talk.”

Can Casper Ruud finally end his Grand Slam nightmare at the US Open?

The Norwegian certainly isn’t the only player to get into the Australian’s bad books, with Kyrgios calling Jannik Sinner’s escaped drugs ban ‘ridiculous’.

Kyrgios did manage to return to the court ahead of the US Open, partnering with Naomi Osaka in an exhibition match.

But the injured star is yet to competitively return from his lengthy spell out with serious wrist and knee injuries.

Ruud is, however, flying high on the court, and will be aiming to go far in the final major of the year in New York.

The world number eight boasts two titles in 2024, but is still chasing his first Grand Slam title, having lost three finals.

Ruud was runner-up at the 2022 and 2023 French Opens to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic respectively, with Carlos Alcaraz beating him in the 2022 US Open final.
