Nick Kyrgios is enjoying is compatriot Alexei Popyrin’s run at the US Open, which includes a win over Novak Djokovic.

Kyrgios says Popyrin will become a superstar following his third round victory over US Open defending champion Djovokic.

The 28th seed beat the second seed 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, securing a fourth round meeting with Frances Tiafoe.

It is another huge challenge for the world number 28, who has now reached a Grand Slam fourth round for the first time in his career.

Popyrin and Tiafoe are good friends, but that friendship will be put to one side when they come face-to-face on the court.

Going on to lift the prestigious trophy will be an extremely difficult task for the Australian, particularly with the crowd being likely to cheer on the American.

But whether it be the US Open or another Grand Slam in the future, Popyrin’s compatriot Kyrgios has predicted a major title to go his way sooner rather than later.

“So happy for Pop man,” Kyrgios wrote on X. “His consistency is something I was looking for my whole career. Genuinely happy man. You have what it takes to win a slam. Bro, go get it.”

Will either Alexei Popyrin or Frances Tiafoe go on to win the US Open?

Popyrin’s confidence should be at an all-time high after his win over Djokovic, who was seeking a record 25th Grand Slam.

Moreover, the former only just won his first title of the year at the Canadian Open, with that hard-court success also set to give him a huge confidence boost.

Tiafoe did, however, also enjoy a run to the final at the Cincinnati Open, while his third round win over Ben Shelton proved just how much of a threat he can be on the hard courts.

Giving both players added incentive is the fact that the draw is wide open following the exits of Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

The winner of his highly-anticipated clash certainly has a fine chance of reaching the US Open final, but the duo will certainly not be looking beyond their next match at this moment in time.
