Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff are among the American hopefuls taking on Wimbledon this year, with the Grand Slam getting underway very shortly.

Fritz won a fourth Eastbourne title just before heading to Wimbledon, with the success representing his 10th on the ATP Tour.

His compatriot Gauff also won her 10th title on the WTA Tour this season after emerging victorious at the French Open.

Gauff has practised with Aryna Sabalenka ahead of Wimbledon, with the former having beaten the latter in their final at Roland Garros.

Their focus now turns to Wimbledon, and legendary figure Martina Navratilova has included the American duo in a key prediction for the event.

Martina Navratilova picks two Wimbledon first round matches that can’t be missed

Fittingly, Navratilova knows what it takes to win Wimbledon, having won more titles than any other player across women’s and men’s tennis.

Fellow legend Roger Federer boasts a superb eight titles at the All England Club, but even that falls short of Navratilova’s nine.

She clinched a record nine titles between 1978 and 1990, with six of her successes in London coming back-to-back.

The Czech-American legend is now looking forward to another edition of the grass court Grand Slam, and two first round matches in particular.

Tasked with naming two such matches that can’t be missed, she said: β€œAlejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Brandon Holt, and Barbora Krejcikova vs. Alexandra Eala.”

Other hugely exciting opening ties include Petra Kvitova taking on Emma Navarro and Joao Fonseca versus Jacob Fearnley.

And Fritz is also on that list, although he faces a very tough test against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Gauff meanwhile meets Dayana Yastremska in round one of Wimbledon, as she looks to make it back-to-back Grand Slam titles.
