Juan Martin del Potro knows Novak Djokovic very well, having shared many special moments together over the years.

Del Potro played Djokovic in his farewell match in Buenos Aires earlier this year, and the pair have reunited since.

At the Miami Open last month, Del Potro was in Djokovic’s box for his victory against Lorenzo Musetti.

With Djokovic moving into the latter stages of his career, Del Potro has spoken about his friends future prospects in the sport.

Djokovic is a record 24-time major winner, with his last Grand Slam title coming at the 2023 US Open.

The Serbian has only reached one major final since then at Wimbledon last year, where Djokovic was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz for a second consecutive year at the grass court major.

At the most recent Grand Slam tournament, Djokovic retired from his Australian Open semi-final against Alexander Zverev with a hamstring injury.

When discussing Djokovic’s future Grand Slam credentials, Del Potro told the Olympics that he backed the 37-year-old to win a 25th major title.

“Winning a Grand Slam is something very personal for him, I believe,” said Del Potro. “I believe he can win more Slams. In tennis terms, he is the best. He has a lot of experience.

“If he can be in good physical shape, he will keep trying and possibly succeed. It would be a great thing for the world of tennis if he manages to win again after some time, as he did in Paris with the gold medal.”

Despite Del Potro’s career being disrupted with injury for many years, the Argentinian did play ‘the big three’ of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on 62 occasions.

Del Potro beat Federer to win the US Open in his only career Grand Slam title triumph, but won just 27% of his matches against the dominant Grand Slam champions.

With Del Potro, Federer and Nadal all now retired, the former world number three has revealed what made them so difficult to beat.

“Many of us played well, but they had a difference in details, because it’s not just tennis,” said Del Potro. “It’s mentality, physique, personality, how to deal with pressure.

“For many years they did this better than us, especially in the most important moments. In other tournaments on the circuit, they play at a level eight or nine, and at the Slams, level 10.”
