Andy Murray made an interesting prediction about Novak Djokovic that he is now helping to make come true.

On Saturday the tennis world was rocked to its core when the double Olympic champion joined the coaching team of his former rival.

Murray is now embarking on his first coaching role just three months after ending his playing career at the Paris Olympic Games.

The former British number one is set to work with Djokovic at least until the conclusion of the Australian Open, which the Serbian will try and win for an 11th time in January.

What did Andy Murray say about Novak Djokovic after his 2023 US Open win?

Novak Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam and fourth at the US Open in 2023. The 37-year-old defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final, avenging his crushing loss from the 2021 championship match in New York.

Following that victory, Andy Murray spoke to BBC Sport and predicted that Djokovic will continue to win Grand Slams after his latest triumph in New York.

“Novak’s longevity has been the greatest, I don’t think this will be the last time that Novak’s won a Grand Slam,” the Brit said.

So far Djokovic has been unable to add to his Grand Slam haul after going through the entire 2024 season without winning a major.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz shared the Grand Slams between them this season, but Djokovic will launch a stern challenge to the duo in 2025, especially with Murray now in his corner.

What was Novak Djokovic’s record at the Grand Slams in 2024?

Djokovic began 2024 as the overwhelming favourite to win an 11th Australian Open and 25th major overall.

But Sinner had other ideas, as he handed the Serbian his first loss at Melbourne Park since 2018, beating him in four sets in the semi-finals.

At the French Open, Djokovic battled his way to the quarter-finals following successive five-set wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Francisco Cerundolo.

But after sustaining a knee injury which later required surgery, Djokovic had to pull out of the tournament before facing Casper Ruud for a spot in the semi-finals.

Djokovic made a miraculous recovery to return in time for the Wimbledon Championships and reached the final, where Alcaraz defeated him in the final for a second successive year.

Djokovic’s Grand Slam season ended with his worst result. At the US Open, Djokovic was stunned by Alexi Popyrin, who needed four sets to claim a third round win.

This result meant Djokovic went through an entire season without winning a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017.
