John Isner made a bold prediction about Daniil Medvedev ahead of the 2025 season.

The 28-year-old’s indifferent season came to an end following to defeat to Jannik Sinner in the round robin stage of the ATP Finals.

Medvedev was beaten by the Italian for the eighth time in nine meetings and had no chance of qualifying for the semi-finals in Turin after losing two of his three group stage matches.

After failing to win the ATP Finals, Medvedev has now gone through an entire season without winning a tournament for the first time since 2017.

Despite his lack of silverware this season, former player John Isner expects the World number five to come back stronger in 2025.

What is John Isner’s Daniil Medvedev prediction for 2025?

Daniil Medvedev struggled at times throughout the 2024 tennis season. After a strong start to the campaign where he made the Australian Open and Indian Wells finals, he failed to make an impression on clay in the spring before reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Back on his favourite hard courts, Medvedev lost back-to-back matches in Canada and Cincinnati, before losing to Sinner in the last eight at the US Open.

A semi-final run in Beijing and quarter-final appearance in Shanghai were ended by Alcaraz and Sinner respectively, before poor runs in Paris and Turin ended his season.

Isner was discussing Medvedev on the Nothing Major Podcast, and despite his lack of titles and crushing defeats to Alcaraz and Sinner, he is backing the Russian to come good in 2025 and possibly win a Grand Slam .

“I’d buy Medvedev stock. I think he has had an incredible year but he has been leaking a little oil lately, you could say he has lost his mind a little bit”, the American said.

“But next year he can certainly win a Grand Slam, especially on a hard court. It seems like his window is closing – Sinner dominated him this year.

“Medvedev beat him at Wimbledon but Sinner beat him pretty easily at the US Open. I would say Medvedev, I think he will get some rest and get his head right.”

How does Daniil Medvedev rate his 2024 season?

Medvedev still managed to finish inside the world’s top five despite a below par season by his standards.

He certainly struggled against Sinner and Alcaraz, who were the standout players of the season and shared the four Grand Slams between them.

Despite some disappointments, Medvedev still managed to take some positives from his year, and gave his year a rating.

“In a sport that is that demanding, with so many players, I want to be No. 1 in the world, but I didn’t play well enough this year, by far, to be No. 1 in the world,” he said after his ATP Finals exit. “Jannik is playing much better. He proved it many times.

“I struggled throughout the whole year. Every practice, every match was a struggle for me. A lot of matches. Before I would feel I had the edge on the opponent and win it easy. Now I needed to win three sets, tie-breaks, breaks in the end of the set, et cetera.

“I would [rate my season] somewhere around six and a half out of 10, which means a lot of work to do to be better, but still a lot of good memories also. I’m looking forward for next season already.”
