Laura Robson has suggested ways in which Daniil Medvedev can improve his game heading into 2025.
The Russian’s year came to an end following defeat to World number one Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals.
The 28-year-old needed to defeat the Italian to give himself a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, but for the eighth time in nine meetings, Medvedev came up short against Sinner.
Therefore, for the first time since 2017, Medvedev has ended a tennis season without a title, having lost his two 2024 finals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells.
How does Laura Robson think Daniil Medvedev can improve his game?
Daniil Medvedev once again fell short against Sinner, this time at the ATP Finals. He found himself a set and a break down against the 23-year-old in Turin, but reeled off three successive games to level set two.
But after going ahead 3-4, Sinner soon resumed business as usual and proceeded to win three games in a row to complete a 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and 13 minutes.
Post-match Laura Robson assessed Medvedev’s game and explained what he needs to improve if he wants to get back to winning trophies. “I think there are certain elements of his game which have slipped slightly,” the former tennis player told Sky Sports.

“The serve, which he has been talking about, the ball toss has had its troubles throughout the last few months and he is throwing in some extra double faults than he has throughout his career.
“I do think other people have leapfrogged him in a way, because he is sometimes too defensive from the back of the court, he can be trapped into just being dictated to.
“I think in 2025 we will see a renewed Medvedev where he maybe goes for a bit more and tries to come forward because his feel is incredible, his hands underneath the ball are perfect so why not give it something extra?”
What were Daniil Medvedev’s results in 2024?
Medvedev struggled at times throughout the 2024 tennis season.
After a strong start to the campaign, Medvedev struggled on clay in the spring before reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
Back on his favourite hard courts, Medvedev lost back-to-back matches in Canada and Cincinnati, before losing to Sinner in the last eight at the US Open.
Once again Medvedev lost to Alcaraz and Sinner at the China Open and Shanghai Masters respectively, before suffering an opening round loss in Paris.
Sinner once again defeated him in Turin, as did Taylor Fritz, to eliminate Medvedev from the competition. Medvedev’s 2024 season ended with 45 wins and 19 defeats, and he will aim to get back in the winner’s circle in 2025.
