Jannik Sinner has once again fallen victim to Carlos Alcaraz, losing their US Open final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Alcaraz thinks Sinner has improved physically, but such improvement was not enough as the Spaniard dominated the Italian.
He won the US Open final 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, claiming a sixth Grand Slam title and the number one spot in the ATP rankings.
The New York champion is now set for a brief rest after his success, with Alcaraz withdrawing from the Davis Cup qualifiers for Spain later this month.
And Sinner leaves the hard-court tournament having failed to defend his title, while his 65-week reign as world number one has come to an end.

Jannik Sinner claimed to have ‘huge issue’ which haunted him in US Open final
Martina Navratilova was blown away by Alcaraz in the final, but her fellow former player Steve Johnson was quick to identify a weakness from Sinner during his time at Flushing Meadows.
He said on the Nothing Major Show: “For somebody of his return level to have only one break point is crazy.

“Carlos is a great server but he’s not [John] Isner, he’s not [Sam] Querrey. He’s not just out there serving bombs all day. It’s crazy.
“We talked about it the other day, but Sinner’s serve is not great and he served at 48% today and Alcaraz made him pay.
“That was a huge issue the whole tournament for Sinner. He struggled on the serve and he didn’t find that rhythm today.”
Sam Querrey suggests how men’s tennis would look without Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz certainly isn’t known best for his serving, but he really was in scintillating form in that area against Sinner.
He gave his opponent very little breathing space from the very first game, exacting revenge for his recent Wimbledon final loss to Sinner.
| Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | |
| 163 | Serve rating | 208 |
| 2 | Aces | 10 |
| 4 | Double faults | 0 |
| 48% (54/112) | 1st serve | 61% (54/89) |
| 69% (37/54) | 1st serve points won | 83% (45/54) |
| 48% (28/58) | 2nd serve points won | 54% (19/35) |
| 55% (6/11) | Break points saved | 0% (0/1) |
Sharing his verdict on the two superstars, Querrey commented: “Could you imagine if one of them didn’t exist? Tennis would suck on the men’s side! It would be one dude! It would be awful.”
It has indeed been complete and utter dominance from the duo in recent times, with Novak Djokovic’s 2023 US Open success representing the last Grand Slam title that wasn’t won by either Sinner or Alcaraz.
At the age of 38, the Serbian is now unlikely to topple the pair, but it remains to be seen who, if indeed anyone, can end their current streak.
Along with their combined eight titles across 2024 and 2025, Sinner and Alcaraz have now met in three successive Grand Slam finals, providing further evidence of their current dominance.
