Carlos Alcaraz earned his 10th career victory over rival Jannik Sinner, as he claimed his second US Open title, and sixth Grand Slam overall.

The Spaniard, who did not drop a set en route to the final in New York, delivered an incredible performance against the defending champion, beating him in four sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Alcaraz also reclaimed world number one status, snapping Sinner‘s dominant reign at the top of the ATP rankings, which lasted over a year.

Having emerged victorious twice over the Italian in major finals this season, the 22-year-old revealed what he expects to happen the next time they play.

Carlos Alcaraz says he wishes it was simple to play Jannik Sinner

In an interview with ESPN, Alcaraz said of facing Sinner: “It’s not simple! I wish it was simple! I would say that playing against Jannik right now is the most difficult challenge that we have in tennis with the level he has.

“Physically, he has improved a lot. It is really difficult to find holes in his game. We have played many, many times, but it is not the same playing now compared to when we played a year ago.

“Tactically we are improving. We approach the match in a different way. I am pretty sure the next time we play against each other, Jannik is going to do something different, so I have to be ready and be focused on that to see what Jannik is going to do and I have to be ready for that.

“So it’s just about developing our games tactically on court and to be really focused on the tactical game against him.”

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner make tennis history at the US Open

Alcaraz and Sinner have become the first pair in tennis history to evenly split the last eight Grand Slam titles between them.

After Novak Djokovic won his 24th major crown at the US Open in 2023, the ‘new two’ have dominated on the biggest stages.

Sinner has won three of the four hard-court Grand Slam events, as well as a maiden Wimbledon championship this year.

Alcaraz, on the other hand, won at the All England Club in 2024 and secured triumphs at Roland Garros and the US Open this season.
