As per OptaAce, since the Australian Open switched from grass in 1988, Sinner is the youngest player to reach the men’s singles final at the Australian Open and US Open in a calendar year, aged 23y 21d.

The Italian world number one has now surpassed the legendary Roger Federer, who achieved the feat aged 23y 34d in 2004, with the Swiss icon winning both events that year, and indeed Wimbledon.

Sinner then decided to skip the Olympics, which looks certain to have been a wise decision given his run to the US Open final.

Moreover, Olympic finalists Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz both suffered early exits at Flushing Meadows after going all the way in Paris.

Sinner could previously not get beyond the quarter-finals of the US Open, but he now has the chance to put that misery behind him against Fritz.
