Holger Rune has not been afraid to share updates about his recovery process from his Achilles injury.

Rune underwent surgery on his Achilles, after suffering a serious tear during his match against Ugo Humbert at the Stockholm Open.

Since undergoing this surgery, Rune has often provided updates on how his recovery has been going.

These updates have been met with a mixed response, with both fans and players including Jessica Pegula admitting their concern for Rune.

As he continues to work his way back to fitness, Rune has now revealed the reason why he is so keen to share his progress.

Holger Rune provides latest update on his Achilles injury

As he is currently absent from the match court, Rune has a little more time on his hands and has appeared in the latest episode of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.

During this podcast, Rune provided a positive update on his Achilles injury, with the Dane revealing that he has not had any setbacks yet.

“Things are going really well actually,” said Rune. “Obviously really devastated when it happened, we were very unsure what was going on, we got it checked immediately and it was kind of the worst thing that could have happened for my Achilles. But, anyways, now I’m doing much better, doing a lot of rehab.

“I’m doing great mentally, honestly, I’ve been very privileged to have all my team around me, and all my family and friends to support me to make life a little bit easier off the tour. But things are going well, I haven’t had any setbacks yet which is really nice, so just going straightforward.”

Former world number Roddick then asked Rune about his willingness to be so open and transparent about his recovery process on social media.

Rune explained that he does it for his fans, and expressed his belief that the more he shares of his journey back to the ATP Tour, the better.

“Yeah, I know how much the fans mean for me, and I think I just have the opinion, the more I can share of my journey, the better,” added Rune. “There’s nothing to hide, it is a tough moment, there is a lot of work to do, it’s not a secret.

“Just trying to act normal as I usually do when I play tournaments, and I’ve been on the tennis court quite a lot, it’s starting to become a little bit more fun, because I’m on two legs now without crutches. So, it’s a better moment, it’s more fun now, for sure.”

Holger Rune responds when asked if he is ahead of his recovery schedule

While there is no official timeline for Rune’s injury, the seriousness of his injury means he is expected to be out for most of the 2025 season.

However, after providing a positive update on his progress, Rune was asked if he is now ahead of his comeback schedule.

“There is no ahead or behind schedule, because it really depends on the person, everybody recovers in their own time, some can take really long, some can take short,” Rune responded. “We obviously looked into everything when the injury happened, who came back fast, who came back slow, why they came back fast, why they got the green light.

“I’ve just been maximising every day, putting all my effort into recovery, doing the right things. I’m following what my surgeon is saying, what my physios are saying, it’s very detailed. It keeps me motivated, because I have very clear goals, ‘I need to be able to do this in 10 days’, that keeps me excited.”

While he has not given any planned comeback date, tennis fans who were worried about Rune will be encouraged by the perspective he has shown in his responses.
