Holger Rune’s 2025 season on the ATP Tour came to a heartbreaking end in October.
During his semifinal match at the Stockholm Open against Ugo Humbert, Rune suffered an Achilles injury, which will now see him miss the upcoming Australian Open and beyond.
The Dane underwent successful surgery after retiring from the match with Humbert, and has since been issuing updates on his recovery.
Some fans were concerned about Rune’s training intensity so soon after the procedure, with many claiming he is going too quickly with his recovery.

Just over seven weeks have now passed since his Achilles surgery, and the 22-year-old has now delivered another update on his ability to walk without a boot.
Holger Rune delivers update seven weeks after Achilles surgery
In a post on Instagram, Rune said: “The end of phase two is getting closer, seven (and a half) weeks since surgery.
“The boot is slowly getting off, and [the] transition to walking in shoes with elevation has begun.
“It’s super difficult to walk, but I kind of get a kick out of the challenge. Enjoy your weekend, everyone,” said the world number 15.
Rune reached a season-high ranking of eighth in the world during the summer following a solid first half of his 2025 campaign.
He made the final at Indian Wells and secured the fifth title of his career at the Barcelona Open, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match.

His second half was largely indifferent, however, with a disappointing early exit at the US Open, and a Laver Cup defeat to Team World.
Rune looked to be picking up some form during the indoor hard court season, but his progress was brought to a halt when he went down in Stockholm.

At the Australian Open, he managed to advance to the fourth round but exited the competition to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
He recorded another fourth-round finish at Roland Garros, having been denied a place in the quarterfinals by Lorenzo Musetti.
Rune’s Wimbledon run ended in the first round when he failed to capitalise on a two-set lead over Nicolas Jarry, adding to the long list of early exits for top seeds at this year’s Championships.
His time at the US Open was also short-lived as he crashed out in the second round to Jan-Lennard Struff.
