Coco Gauff won her second Grand Slam title after winning the French Open final against Aryna Sabalenka.
Gauff has been congratulated by Carlos Alcaraz among many other big names across the sporting world and beyond after her French Open triumph.
There has been much debate about what caused the American to win that final, with Sabalenka suggesting Gauff was not responsible for her own victory.
Regardless of what caused Gauff to win the French Open, she has now joined an exclusive list of American women to have won multiple majors since 2000.

Coco Gauff joins a group of five American women who have won multiple Grand Slams since 2000
Gauff won the US Open in 2023 to lift her first Grand Slam title, but had not been in another Grand Slam final since then.
However, in her return to a major final in Paris, Gauff has upgraded her junior title from the French Open in 2018.
After winning the French Open, Gauff admitted Serena Williams would be her nightmare opponent, and that is one of the players that she has now joined as part of a historic group of American women.
Serena Williams was the last American woman to become a multiple major champion, lifting her second Grand Slam title at the 2002 French Open.
The now-retired American tennis great went on to win a record 23 Grand Slams, and leads the list of five women that Gauff is now part of.
Other players on this list are Serena’s older sister Venus Williams, who is still yet to officially retire from tennis, but has not competed on the WTA Tour in over a year.
While Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati both won three Grand Slam titles, with Gauff following them with her two majors at just 21-years-old.
There are three active American WTA players who have won one Grand Slam singles title since 2000, highlighted by Madison Keys’ winning the Australian Open earlier this year.
The other two American women to have enjoyed major success since then are Sloane Stephens (US Open 2017) and Sofia Kenin (Australian Open 2020).
How many Grand Slams can Coco Gauff win?
With Gauff already winning two Grand Slam titles at such a young age, it appears that the sky is the limit for the world number two.
While she did not pick a specific number, in her pre-tournament press conference at the 2024 Australian Open Gauff admitted that she wanted to win at least 10 major titles.
“I mean, I would say recently I feel like I wanted to get double-digits,” Gauff said at the time. “That’s, like, cool. But there’s no number.
“Yeah, who knows? That could change depending on how my career goes. Right now I would say double-digits would be pretty awesome. I don’t know if it will happen, but I think that’s a high goal. I think setting my goals high pushes me beyond what I think I can do.”
Gauff has never won the Australian Open or Wimbledon, but will have the chance to change that next month.
Wimbledon is statistically her worst-performing Grand Slam tournament, despite Gauff making her breakthrough against Venus Williams at the grass court major in 2019.
| Grand Slam | Coco Gauff’s Win-loss Record | Coco Gauff’s Best Result |
| Australian Open | 16-6 (73%) | Semi-final (2024) |
| Roland Garros | 27-5 (84%) | Won the title (2025) |
| Wimbledon | 11-5 (69%) | Fourth Round (2019, 2021 & 2024) |
| US Open | 17-5 (77%) | Won the title (2025) |
Gauff is still yet to surpass the fourth round of Wimbledon, and will be hoping to change that this year.
She will begin her grass court season at the Berlin Open, which gets underway on Monday, June 16.
