Venus Williams is currently considered inactive on the WTA Tour, having not played a professional match in over a year.
Williams is a seven-time major winner, with her last Grand Slam singles title coming at Wimbledon in 2008.
At 44-years-old, Williams‘ competitive appearances are much less frequent, with her last match on the WTA Tour coming against Diana Shnaider at the 2024 Miami Open.
There were some rumors of a potential return for Williams, after she received an Indian Wells wildcard.
However, this was quickly quashed after Williams turned the wildcard down, as the speculation around her future continues.

Venus Williams reveals what she tells people when asked if she is returning to the WTA Tour
There was even more talk about the former world number one at the most recent Miami Open, after Williams practised with Ons Jabeur at the tournament she has won three times.
Despite not actually competing in the tournament itself, Williams filmed a behind the scenes video for her YouTube channel and provided an update on her future in the sport.
In this update, Williams declared that she has no specific plans and is just enjoying practising every day.
“The Miami Open has so many good memories, it was like my first big win, my first big final back in like 1999,” said Williams. “I was 19-years-old, oh such good times. Serena and I played amazing tennis here.
“It was actually pretty motivating to come back and see the competition, I love this part of my life. People look at me and are like ‘Are you playing?’ and I’m like no I’m not. You know it’s one thing to look fit, but it’s another thing to be really tennis fit.
“And they’re like ‘When are you playing?’, it’s like I really don’t have a plan for the first time in my life as an athlete and a player like there’s a whole plan. Like I’ve got to play this tournament and these tournaments, so I can be ready for that tournament. And now it’s like I love playing, I’m going to play every day and if I feel ready to play then I’ll play.”
When did Venus Williams last win a match on the WTA Tour?
Williams has not played much competitive tennis since 2020, averaging at just over seven matches a year.
She has won only 19% of those matches, with her last victory on the WTA Tour coming against Veronika Kudermetova at the 2023 Cincinnati Open.
The last time that Williams won back-to-back matches was even longer ago, once again coming in Cincinnati in 2019.
| Year | Matches Played | Matches Won |
| 2020 | 9 | 1 |
| 2021 | 12 | 3 |
| 2022 | 4 | 0 |
| 2023 | 10 | 3 |
| 2024 | 2 | 0 |
| Total | 37 | 7 |
It seems very unlikely that the now unranked Williams would return for the clay court season, having not played a match on the surface since Roland Garros in 2021.
Williams is most likely to want to return to the matchcourt for Wimbledon and the US Open, the two tournaments where she has collected her seven Grand Slam singles titles.
