Chris Eubanks will still be trying to get over his Wimbledon nightmare, having lost in the first round at SW19.

French qualifier Quentin Halys shocked the American at the All England Club earlier this month, beating Eubanks in straight sets.

The latter will feel slightly better about the loss after Halys went on to reach the third round, with his dream run ended by 15th seed Holger Rune.

But Eubanks knows he can do much better at the event, having reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year.

The 28-year-old once reached 29th in the ATP world rankings, but Eubanks has since slipped all the way down to 128th.

What does Chris Eubanks think of Nick Kyrgios?

Facing Jannik Sinner in round one of the French Open didn’t help, although fans loved that Eubanks gave a young spectator his racket after the loss at Roland Garros.

The American will now be keen to focus on getting back to his best, but he has taken some time to look back on an iconic clash between two tennis icons.

Analysing the 2017 Miami Open semi-final between Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios for the ATP Tour, Eubanks waxed lyrical about the latter, despite the former winning the match.

“Second game of the second hitting a nice tweener cross, classic Nick, just an incredible shotmaker, super talented, and just an ultimate showman,” said Eubanks.

Fans love what Nick Kyrgios did at Wimbledon

Unfortunately such skills were not on show at Wimbledon given Kyrgios’ injury problems, with the Australian last playing a tour-level match in June 2023.

He is, however, back on the court, with Kyrgios exchanging messages with Novak Djokovic after they played a practice session at SW19.

The Australian was limited to media duties at the recent Grand Slam, with tennis fans having loved his Wimbledon commentary.

But fans are undoubtedly missing his jaw-dropping skills on the court, and potentially even his often controversial behaviour.

His opponents may have other thoughts, but one certainty is that tennis needs the 2022 Wimbledon finalist back in action as soon as possible.
