Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios haven’t always been the closest, but they have evidently put their differences aside.

The Australian remarkably has a 2-1 head-to-head record over the Serbian from their three meetings on the court.

But it is Djokovic who has the bragging rights over his friend given that his win arrived in the 2022 Wimbledon final.

Kyrgios took the first set in London two years ago, but Djokovic fought back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(7-3) on centre court.

Another meeting this time around has been denied due to the Australian’s injury problems, with Kyrgios last playing a tour-level match in June 2023.

It looked for all the world that Djokovic would also miss Wimbledon due to his knee injury, but the seven-time champion passed his fitness test to make the tournament.

The Serbian has, however, taken a quick break from competitive action for a practice session with Kyrgios at SW19, with the duo exchanging messages on social media after the encounter.

“Great to see you happy and smiling on the court, NK,” Djokovic posted on Instagram. “How did I do with your favourite shot??”

Kyrgios replied to the images of the pair smiling on court and Djokovic’s tweener shot, saying: “Thanks for today my friend.”

Novak Djokovic still chasing Roger Federer’s Wimbledon record

Djokovic underwent knee surgery just last month after withdrawing from the French Open, placing doubt on his presence at Wimbledon.

But a stunning recovery was made, with the 24-time Grand Slam champion having very few issues as he breezed through rounds one and two, although he has admitted to ‘struggling’ with his movement.

Djokovic is currently looking to equal Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles, with his seventh coming against Kyrgios two years ago.

The world number two was denied the record last time out, having lost to Carlos Alcaraz at the All England Club in 2023.

Kyrgios meanwhile is doing his utmost to return to competitive action, with the Australian ‘very close’ to making his long-awaited comeback.
