Carlos Alcaraz confirms his plans after Wimbledon final defeat
This is the first time that Alcaraz has lost a Grand Slam final, with the world number two winning all five of his previous finals.
Not only did that record come to an end, but Alcaraz’s 24-match winning streak was also brought to a conclusion by Sinner.
After winning Roland Garros amongst two other titles in this streak, Alcaraz revealed that he is now going to take some time away to recuperate from a busy European summer of tennis.
“I’m going to take a few days to disconnect,” Alcaraz said in his post-match press conference. “The last few months have been very demanding, with very little time to rest. Playing matches like this week after week is exhausting. We’ll see later how we approach the American tour.”
Alcaraz is scheduled to play his next tournament at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto.

Although Alcaraz is seen as one of the best players in the world, he hit 36 unforced errors against Sinner and was only able to hit 53% of his serves in play.
While he did not specify what he needed to improve, Alcaraz admitted that there were many things he has taken from this defeat.
“I take away many things to improve,” said Alcaraz. “I have things very clear, I have them well noted to work on them with the goal of improving.
“You have to accept that you can’t always win, that the opponent can surpass you. Be satisfied with what you do. The good thing about tennis is that you have more tournaments ahead.”
Alcaraz remains on five Grand Slam titles, with Sinner now just one behind him in the record books.
