Andy Roddick has high hopes for Victoria Mboko, which he has made clear in his prediction for the Canadian teenager.

Mboko is one of the most exciting players on the WTA Tour right now, with the 19-year-old climbing from outside the top 300 to world number 10 in just over a year.

Over the past year, Mboko has won the Canadian Open and the Hong Kong Open, as well as reaching the finals in Doha and Adelaide.

Mboko has already beaten the likes of Elena Rybakina, Amanda Anisimova and Mirra Andreeva this year, and Andy Roddick thinks she will achieve something by the year 2028.

Mboko also reached the quarterfinals of Indian Wells last week, where she was only beaten by eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.

When discussing Mboko on his ‘Served with Andy Roddick‘ podcast, Roddick predicted her to win a Grand Slam title over the next two years.

“Mboko is going to win a Slam the next two years. I just needed to say that out loud,” stated Roddick. “She plays well every week. We talk about Sabalenka and she is in position every single tournament.

“Mboko is not there yet, but if you take this breakout last year, some injuries, maybe limped to the finish line or was at least spottier. This year she is making the quarters or better every single event. She gets through tough three set matches all the time, when she starts flipping those and turns those three set wins in 4 and 4’s [straight sets], which she will…She has only been on the Tour for eight months.

“Losing to Sabalenka does not bother me at all. She is just building. She is physically strong and she can withhold the stress test of big tennis. I am more and more impressed with her the more she goes about it. She doesn’t have to play great to win matches.

“She is really good at not playing well in the first, second or third round but she is still there in the quarters. Those are big things for a young player. Give me until the end of 2028 but I think she wins a major.”

What is Victoria Mboko’s best result at a Grand Slam?

Showing just how meteoric Mboko’s rise up the WTA rankings has been, she has actually only made one appearance at every Grand Slam tournament.

The best of those appearances came at her most recent major, with Mboko reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open before being beaten by Sabalenka.

Mboko has won both of her WTA titles on hard courts, but she is still yet to win a match at the US Open, having lost in the first round to two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova last year.

She has also shown herself as an all-court player, with Mboko having come through qualifying to reach the third round of the French Open last year.

Mboko will look to continue her rise up the rankings at the Miami Open, where she is the 10th seed.

After receiving an automatic bye to the second round, Mboko will now play Anna Blinkova, who extended former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin’s losing streak to eight matches.

Mboko will play Blinkova for the first time at the Miami Open on Thursday, March 19.
