Amanda Anisimova has ended the winning streak of Mirra Andreeva in a three set victory at the Miami Open.
Anisimova won the Qatar Open last month, in what has been both an impressive start to the season for both herself and American women as a whole.
She was unable to back up this victory at the following tournaments, while Andreeva won Indian Wells and the Dubai Tennis Championships back-to-back as she went on a 13-match winning streak.
This continued into the Miami Open, but Anisimova was able to bring Andreeva’s winning run to an end in a tense match at the Floridian WTA 1000 tournament.

Amanda Anisimova hits back at Mirra Andreeva after she criticizes medical timeout
There was a controversial moment during the match between Anisimova and Andreeva that took place during the deciding set.
With Anisimova leading 3-1 in the third, Andreeva was serving at deuce (40-40) before her opponent told the umpire that she required medical attention due to a blister on her finger.
Andreeva debated the timing of this and told the umpire, who allowed medical intervention per the rules, that ‘We all know why’ Anisimova was doing this, seemingly suggesting that her opponent was trying to stop play for tactical reasons.
After Anisimova received treatment on this blister, Andreeva would go onto hold her serve and win the game, before eventually being beaten 7-6(5) 2-6 6-3.
This is not the first time that the 17-year-old has been involved in drama in recent weeks, with Andreeva being criticized at Indian Wells for what she did during the final.
Despite the match being over, this saga continued after Anisimova poked fun at the situation in her Instagram story.
In this social media post, Anisimova showed her blistered finger seemingly doing a rude gesture and referenced the first set where Andreeva took a medical timeout of her own.
Anisimova said, “‘We all know why’ at 3-1 up was a good one coming from the 1-2 first set medical.”
After nursing her blister, Anisimova will look to continue her best ever run at the Miami Open in her last-16 match.
Bidding for a place in the quarter-finals, Anisimova will play Emma Raducanu in a rematch from the Australian Open that the Brit won.
Where is Mirra Andreeva playing next?
As Andreeva’s impressive run comes to an end, she will now take a few weeks away from the matchcourt to recuperate.
The Russian teenager will now switch her focus from hard courts to clay, as she looks to make her debut at the Stuttgart Open, that begins on Monday April 14.
Stuttgart is a WTA 500 level tournament and often has one of the strongest fields, which is no different this year as the tournament features eight of the current top 10 on its entry list.
Although she has had her most recent run on hard courts, Andreeva is strong on all surfaces and actually had her breakout tournament at the Madrid Open in 2023.
The Madrid Open will be Andreeva’s next tournament after Stuttgart, followed by the Italian Open and then the second major of the year at Roland Garros.
