Amanda Anisimova is now a WTA 1000 champion, having beaten Jelena Ostapenko in the final of the Qatar Open.

Iga Swiatek was chasing a fourth successive title in Doha at the 2025 Qatar Open, but she fell to Ostapenko in the semi-finals.

British number one Emma Raducanu lost in the first round, as her fellow unseeded players Anisimova and Ostapenko made the final.

And it was the American who emerged victorious, with Anisimova winning the highest-level title of her career.

She stormed to a 6-4, 6-3 victory in one hour and 21 minutes, in a match that was twice briefly halted due to rain.

She has also managed to become only the second player representing the United States to win the Qatar Open after Monica Seles in 2002, noted OptaAce.

Amanda Anisimova makes tennis history with Qatar Open title

Anisimova lifted the trophy with a final win over world number 37 Ostapenko, who once reached fifth in the rankings and won the 2017 French Open.

The Latvian was also hugely impressive in Doha, where along with Swiatek she knocked out the likes of Jasmine Paolini and Ons Jabeur.

But eventual champion Anisimova stole the show, overcoming the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Leylah Fernandez and recent Australian Open semi-finalist Paula Badosa.

The latest Qatar Open final was the first to feature two players ranked outside the top 30, with Anisimova now the lowest-ranked player to lift the trophy, as per OptaAce.
