Alex de Minaur is currently the top ranked Australian player after another successful season on the ATP Tour.
De Minaur is currently the world number seven, ending the season inside the top 10 for a second consecutive year.
Despite struggling against the top ranked players, Jannik Sinner has backed De Minaur to go even higher in the future.
There were some questions directed towards De Minaur after he decided to play an exhibition event, but after winning the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) title he has spoken about the current state of Australian tennis.

De Minaur has become the first player to win three UTS titles, as he continues to show the improvements he has made to his game.
The world number seven is the top ranked Australian ATP player by some distance right now, with former Canadian Open champion Alexei Popyrin having a difficult season, causing him to fall down to world number 54 in the rankings.
While on the WTA Tour, exciting teenage prospect Maya Joint is the highest ranked player as the world number 32.
That position was previously held by Daria Kasatkina, but she has fallen to her lowest ranking in four years after admitting she was at ‘breaking point’.
When speaking on The Sit-Down podcast, De Minaur was asked what he thought about the current state of Australian tennis, to which he answered very positively.
“It’s great to be a part of it,” said De Minaur. “I feel like this is where our nation deserves to be. We have got such a rich history and culture when it comes to tennis.
“It’s great to be able to show it. We are a very strong Grand Slam nation and we are in deep, just showing it with strength in numbers. Whether it is myself, whether it is any other Aussie, just to have good results out there it means the world.”

De Minaur has a career-high ranking of world number six and has been the best Australian player for some time now, and he was asked about how he compared himself to tennis legends from his nation.
The 26-year-old went on to claim that he could not be compared to the greats of Australian tennis unless he wins a Grand Slam title.
“The way I see it is that I feel I have a long way to go,” added De Minaur. “I need to get my hands on a Slam to be even close to being in the same conversation as some of the Aussie greats before me. I have plenty of work to do, but hopefully one day!”

The last Australian player to win a Grand Slam singles title was Ash Barty winning the Australian Open in 2022, before she announced her shock retirement just months later.
While the last Australian man to lift a major singles trophy is Lleyton Hewitt, who recently made a shock return to tennis, and won the 2002 Wimbledon men’s singles title.

De Minaur has reached six Grand Slam quarterfinals in his career, including two this year, but he has never been able to go any further than that.
He will be looking to break this losing streak in major quarterfinals next year, starting at his home Grand Slam of the Australian Open.
