New WTA rankings are released as Victoria Mboko and Eva Lys achieve career highs

Victoria Mboko and Eva Lys are celebrating career-high world ranking positions this morning as the new WTA world rankings were announced.

The WTA Finals are taking centre stage at the moment, with Coco Gauff losing to Jessica Pegula in her opening match after winning the Riyadh-based tournament last year.

Over the weekend, Mboko reacted after coming through the field to win the Hong Kong Open and claiming another title during her breakthrough year.

Earlier this year, Lys was praised by Gauff after being beaten by her in China, and she too, is making strides up the WTA world rankings after the new list was released.

New WTA rankings now released with Victoria Mboko and Eva Lys moving on up

The latest rankings are perhaps going to be crucial ahead of the Australian Open, with Mboko now sitting in 18th position and she will be seeded for the Melbourne tournament.

Lys is up to number 40 for the first time, and no fewer than eight players are now in career-high positions on the WTA world rankings.

Mboko has bounced back from a poor run of form to finish the year with a flourish and bag another title for her collection, with the future looking very bright for her indeed.

At 19-years-old, she is proving that she might just be a Grand Slam champion in the making with Mboko and Lys likely to create a decent rivalry in the future.

Eva Lys reacts after reaching number 40 in the world

Lys is 23 but has now achieved a career-best ranking after starting the season with a brilliant run to round four of the Australian Open.

Lys recently got to the quarterfinal of the China Open and clearly, there is plenty for her to take away from her breakout year on the WTA Tour.

After the latest world rankings were released, she posted on social media: “New career high. Germany’s No.1 again. Grateful beyond words.”

Lys will now be hoping for a strong start to 2025, and a solid Australian Open once again could help her climb the rankings even further in the New Year.
