Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner simply furthered their status on the ATP Tour at the French Open, with the duo having met in another final.

Alcaraz beat Sinner in the Italian Open final last month, and repeated that feat in the French Open final at Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Sinner is taking a break following his final loss at the clay court Grand Slam, in which he gave up a two-set lead against his opponent.

Alcaraz has now defended titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, with the Spaniard now boasting five Grand Slam triumphs.

Sinner does, however, remain top of the ATP Tour rankings after their latest battle, which took five hours and 29 minutes.

Three ATP Tour players who could challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz now has a phenomenal 20 career titles at the age of 22, with 23-year-old Sinner just one behind on 19.

They don’t look like slowing down anytime soon, but perhaps there are a small number of players who could threaten their expected dominance in the near future.

Jack Draper

Arguably sitting top of the pile is Jack Draper, who is the highest-ranked British men’s player at this moment in time.

But he is making bigger moves on the ATP Tour, having just risen one spot to a career-high rank of world number four.

Draper won at Indian Wells earlier this season, and at 23 has three career titles so far, with four runner-up finishes.

His big-hitting is already an issue for a long list of his rivals, and could pose a real threat to Sinner and Alcaraz in the years to come.

Lorenzo Musetti

Like Draper, Lorenzo Musetti has also now secured a new career-high rank after impressing at the French Open.

The Italian ace, who retired hurt against Alcaraz in the semi-finals in Paris, now occupies sixth place in the world rankings.

He is a two-time ATP champion at the age of 23 and is impressing across various surfaces, reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals last year.

Musetti has helped Italian tennis reach a whole new level in recent times, but he will now be eager to move out of Sinner’s shadow and into the limelight.

Ben Shelton

A year younger than both Draper and Musetti, 22-year-old Ben Shelton is another who could be a danger to Sinner and Alcaraz.

He has also risen one spot in the world rankings to 12th, with his Roland Garros run ended only by the Spaniard in the fourth round.

Shelton gave Alcaraz big trouble in Paris before ultimately failing to progress, having done the same to Sinner in their 2025 Australian Open semi-final.

Tommy Paul is arguably flying the flag for American men’s tennis right now, but Shelton isn’t too far behind.

Can Joao Fonseca mount a serious Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz challenge?

There is, however, one rising star on the ATP Tour who may just have a better chance of competing with Sinner and Alcaraz than the three aforementioned hopefuls.

Joao Fonseca is only 18 years old, but currently occupies a career-high rank of 57 on the ATP Tour, having just risen eight places.

The Brazilian is also already a one-time title winner, having lifted the trophy in Buenos Aires earlier this season.

He has been making real waves in men’s tennis, most recently by reaching the third round of the French Open.

It took a top display from fifth seed Draper to send him out of the clay court Grand Slam, with Fonseca having previously knocked out 30th seed Hubert Hurkacz.

That superb victory was reminiscent of his 2025 Australian Open appearance, where he knocked out ninth seed Andrey Rublev in round one.

Intriguingly, Fonseca has already mimicked both Sinner and Alcaraz on the court, having triumphed at the 2024 NextGen ATP Finals.

The Italian clinched that title back in 2019, with the Spaniard doing the same in 2021, defeating Alex de Minaur and Sebastian Korda respectively.

Fonseca overcame fellow rising star Learner Tien in his final, but has rapidly moved on to impressing on the ATP Tour.

He is only going to get better, and could pose a real threat to the leading two players in men’s tennis sooner rather than later.

Plenty of others will, however, also be keen to have their say on the matter, with the futures of Jakub Mensik and Arthur Fils also looking very promising.
