Novak Djokovic has been left to roam free by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, with the trio having once formed the Big Three in men’s tennis.

King of Clay Nadal retired in November, with Federer calling time on his career in 2022, leaving Djokovic as the last man standing.

The three legends dominated the ATP Tour for several years, but the Serbian now has a chance to extend his lead in their iconic rivalry.

Djokovic is eyeing another Australian Open title, which would result in a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam.

Nadal is his nearest competitor on the men’s side in the Open Era with 22, closely followed by the 20 of Federer.

Who can form the next Big Three with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz?

Djokovic still remains a real threat despite nearing the end of his career, but there are two players who have already superbly taken over the mantle from Nadal and Federer.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have effortlessly filled the gap left by the icons, having shared the Grand Slam titles in 2024.

A new Big Three has yet to arise, but there now looks to be three challengers to the final piece of the puzzle.

Jack Draper

British number one Jack Draper enjoyed a superb season last time out, overcoming his injury issues to win his first two ATP titles in Hamburg and Vienna.

The 23-year-old reached a career-high rank of 15th, and surprised many by storming his way to the US Open semi-final, where he lost to eventual champion Sinner.

Draper has been tipped to become a top 10 player, and there is every chance the 23-year-old can really challenge the world number one and Alcaraz in 2025, although his fitness struggles could really hamper that.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

Another player to have won his first two titles in 2024 was Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who triumphed in Basel and Lyon.

The 21-year-old has also reached a career-high rank of 30th, with the Frenchman getting off to a flyer in 2025 by beating Nick Kyrgios and Frances Tiafoe at the Brisbane International.

The mammoth server has huge potential, with that area of his game potentially able to fire him into the next Big Three of men’s tennis.

Joao Fonseca

There is, however, an even younger ATP rising star making a name for himself, with 18-year-old Joao Fonseca really impressing lately.

Nadal congratulated Fonseca after he won the Next Gen ATP Finals title last month, with a career-high rank of 113th going his way.

The Brazilian has just eased through Australian Open qualifying to secure an opening round tie with Andrey Rublev, entering the event as the third teenager to lift the Next Gen trophy after Sinner and Alcaraz.
